                                                           Ragdoll	
  cats,	
  named	
  for	
  their	
  tendency	
  to	
  go	
  
                                                           limp	
  when	
  being	
  held,	
  much	
  like	
  a	
  rag	
  doll,	
  
                                                           were	
  created	
  in	
  the	
  early	
  1960s	
  by	
  Ann	
  Baker,	
  a	
  
                                                           Riverside,	
  California	
  resident,	
  who	
  combined	
  
                                                           three	
  breeds:	
  Persians,	
  Burmese,	
  and	
  Birman.	
  
                                                           Once	
  she	
  developed	
  this	
  new	
  type	
  of	
  cat,	
  she	
  
                                                           began	
  advertising	
  and	
  sending	
  literature	
  to	
  cat	
  
owners	
  across	
  the	
  nation.	
  Denny	
  Dayton	
  took	
  the	
  breed	
  to	
  the	
  next	
  level	
  in	
  1967	
  
when	
  he	
  got	
  the	
  United	
  States	
  to	
  formally	
  recognize	
  Ragdolls	
  as	
  an	
  official	
  breed.	
  
Dayton	
  also	
  developed	
  Ragdoll	
  Fanciers	
  Club	
  International,	
  which	
  continues	
  to	
  be	
  
the	
  most	
  reputable	
  and	
  respected	
  Ragdoll	
  registrar	
  in	
  the	
  world.	
  
	
  
Today	
  there	
  are	
  more	
  than	
  500	
  breeders	
  nationally	
  who	
  breed	
  and	
  sell	
  Ragdoll	
  cats.
