I was reading a book
that taught a really basic principle of
Social Proof that’s very useful if you’re
in the direct selling industry.
And anyone in Direct Sales companies
OR MLM (Network Marketing)
companies are in the sales industry.
Here’s how to use social proof to
increase sales in your business.
There was an experiment done where a
business woman did an infomercial where a
product was being sold.
It was just like ALL the other infomercials
that we have today where its on almost every
channel on Sunday mornings.
She used all of the effective selling “tricks”
such as testimonials, product details and
celebrity endorsements to sell it.
But she changed ONE simple thing at the
end of the infomercial that EVERYONE
Instead of saying the famous Call-To-Action
line, “Our operators are standing by, Please
She replaced the line to say, “If our
operators are busy, please call again”.
As a business person, you would
immediately think that this is telling your
audience that they may waste their
time waiting for someone to attend them
when they call to purchase the product.
But the experiment showed that there
was a 26% increase in sales but just
implementing this ONE simple principle
of social proof.
How Does Social Proof Work To
Create More Sales?
Typically, when an infomercial’s call-to-
action tells people that “operators are
standing by”, it can easily put a mental
picture in ones mind that NOT many people
are interested in the product so the product
isn’t that good.
However, the fact that the infomercial that
was the experiment had a call-to-action that
told people that “if operators are busy,
please call again”, puts a mental picture in
one’s mind that the product MUST be good
since “EVERYONE” is calling to order it.
This has been tested over and over again
and regardless of what people say against it,
the facts remain.
Recently, I began to do the same thing
in my business and I’ve noticed a slight
increase in myLead Generation.
So not only does this work with
traditional businesses, direct sales
businesses and MLM, but it works with
ANYTHING you are selling.
But event with this information, a TON of
people in Direct Sales and MLM can’t
sell that effectively anyway to get their
business to the point to where they can
