Job Description

The database administrator (DBA) is responsible for the database, master file, data warehouse support, and
administration and support for standard database software. The DBA shall provide database administration and
maintenance, data warehousing and data mining services, and database planning.


    •     Perform local database administration for standard database software for common-user Army systems,
          and develop, field, and support database applications.
    •     Perform local database administration for data warehouses for common-user Army systems, perform
          incremental (full information and directory store) backups, and perform full system backups.
    •     Create application database objects (table indexes, view) and grants/revokes security.
    •     Perform database builds, reorganizations, maintenance, tuning, backups, restorations, and query design.
    •     Participate in application outage incidents to ensure database integrity and functionality.
    •     Define and maintain database problem reporting, tracking, and resolution procedures.
    •     Provide proactive input into design issues/constraints, performance tuning, and impact analysis of
    •     Support, enforce, and improve upon existing database development, architecture, and naming standards.

Required Education and Skills:

    •     A current CompTIA SEC + Certification.
    •     The following certifications:
              o MCDBA: Microsoft Certified Database Administrator SQL Server 2000

             o   Either MCTS: SQL Server 2005 or MCITP: Database Administrator SQL Server 2005
             o   Either MCTS: Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or MCITP:
                 Microsoft Certified IT Professional for Microsoft SQL Server 2008
    •   At minimum, an active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
    •   Three to four years of database administration experience.
    •   Must be eligible to work for any employer in the U.S.

Desired Education and Skills:

    •   At least two years of experience in database administration.
    •   A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related area.
    •   Oracle 10/11/12 experience.
    •   MS SQL administration and maintenance experience.
    •   Scripting experience.
    •   Working knowledge of DBConsole and/or Grid Control.
    •   Working knowledge of various Windows OS.
    •   Excellent communication skills for team projects and client communication.
    •   Strong analytic skills for problem resolution, database and SQL performance tuning.
