For the first time, an international fireworks festival is being held in Singapore. The festival will be held over 3 weekends (1, 8 and 15 Aug). On each of these Sundays, a team from Hong Kong, Singapore and the USA will be providing a spectacular fireworks display, lasting 12-16 minutes. Complementing the fireworks festival will be a 16-day carnival, which will also feature outdoor concerts. This event is expected to draw close to 200,000 spectators each week, including tourists from neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Brunei, Taiwan and China.
“Jump on Singapore” is the first skydiving festival to debut in Singapore. A significant milestone event, this is the first sporting event of its kind here and will feature a wide range of adrenaline-pumping activities and stunts performed by professional skydivers and fun jumpers. Action-sports enthusiasts will also have the chance to participate in exhilarating tandem jumps. This magical experience will allow interested individuals to experience the accelerating leap from an aircraft flying 4km above Singapore. “Jump on Singapore” is a great chance to „fly in the skies‟ and enjoy a magnificent bird‟s eye view of Singapore. The public will also be treated to exciting live camera footage shown on the ground, providing spectators with an exclusive chance to enjoy the action through the eyes of a professional skydiver while he takes the plunge. The inaugural Singapore Street Opera Festival brings back this colourful tradition to the Singapore River. The three-day event, which will have performances, a fair and an exhibition built around the theme of “Lifestyle 1965”, will feature four opera-types; the three main ones being intrinsic to Singapore: Hokkien Opera (xiangju), Cantonese Opera (yueju) and Teochew Opera (chaoju), as well as Jin Opera from China‟s Shanxi province. Six performances are planned over three days. Day performances are Event’s Description: Singapore Designers come together to design 39 limited edition T-shirts in celebration of Singapore‟s 39th Birthday. Presented by Raffles City Shopping Centre, the project is organized by the Textile and Fashion Federation (Singapore). Singapore Designers will unleash their creativity, designing unique T-shirts through the use of the patriotic colours of red and white to express their own personal vision of Singapore‟s 39th birthday. An exhibition of the 39 T-shirt designs will be held at Raffles City Shopping Centre in August. Consumers will also be able to purchase these exclusive T-shirts at the exhibition.

Take to the streets at Orchard Road in August this year! A month-long celebration to enliven the streets with cultural performances and activities for one and all. Besides a bazaar offering a wide array of merchandise, this year‟s highlight is a street exhibition showcasing Singapore‟s development and progress over the years. Members of the public can also take part in an initiative to create a huge National Flag using sequin patches.

The opening performance features, for the first time, key traditional auspicious ritual operas done in mime. A smaller than average, short, sepir-coloured haired cat with noticeably large round eyes and big triangular ears, the Singapura Cat used to be found along the Singapore River previously. SINGPEX 04, the national stamp competition cum exhibition, is an annual stamp event enjoyed by stamp collectors and the public. Winning philatelic collections competing in the adult, youth and school group categories will be on display, and a wide selection of philatelic items by stamp dealers will be available for sale at the stamp fair. This exhibition builds up to an international event, the World Stamp Championship 04, which will be held from 28 August 04 till 1 September 04, at Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Many of the great people and events that have shaped Singapore‟s history are the result of brave risks. This National Day, the Singapore History Museum celebrates some of these courageous risktakers by presenting their stories. Cast a vote before 4pm for the story you admire most and you stand a chance to win in a lucky draw. Entry to the Museum is free and there‟s something for all ages, so don‟t miss a full day of exciting events. Colour yourself red and white with face and body painting on level 4. There are craft sessions every 30 minutes in the Activity Room for children 4 to 6 years. At 10am and 3.30pm, form a team of 3 to 5 people for a treasure hunt. Join the free guided tours at 11am and 3pm in Mandarin or 12 noon and 4pm in English or the “My Grandfather‟s Treasure” tour for families between 2pm and 3pm. In this lecture, Dr Geoff Wade (Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore) will examine how Admiral Zheng He, who led voyages in the Ming Dynasty, China has been perceived and reflected in Southeast Asia. He will also cover the voyages, temples and legends associated with the admiral.

The residents will also be awed and entertained by guest star Radio DJ Violet Fen Ying and emcee Samson who speaks both English and Malay. 3000 goodie bags with assortment of wonderful things will be distributed free of charge on a first come first serve basis. Face painting will also be available. After the live telecast of the NDP at Kallang the movie “Homerun” by Jack Neo will be screened. Homerun is an appropriate movie as it depicts the growth of Singapore as a nation. Most importantly this event provides the opportunity for residents of Simei and Tampines to celebrate as a family, as a community, as a nation irrespective of race, language or religion. This is the first of its kind in Singapore and we want to make this event into an annual event.
