PET PROJECT MALAYSIA 2013
In Association With
In a Nutshell
An initiative started in 2011 by Sabrina Saw, Pet Project is the nation’s FIRST ever
dance, fitness and sports “marathon” held to raise awareness and funds for the plight
of animal welfare across Malaysia.
On March 23, 2013 from 9am to 6pm, The British International School of Kuala
Lumpur (in association with Expatriate Lifestyle Magazine) will host, in collaboration
with Sabrina, the SECOND annual Pet Project Malaysia.
In 2012, over RM23,000 was raised in support of NINE animal welfare NGOs while
media awareness was abundant. This was a combined effort between all of our
internationally acclaimed talent, athletes and sponsors’ efforts.

Suzette Ackermann (Hong Kong/South Africa) Suzette was born in Durban, on the
East coast of South Africa. She found her passion in dance, theatre and music from a
young age. She started her dance training in ballet and later moved on to modern and
contemporary stage, while studying theatre. She started taking part in theatre and
musical productions from the age of 5, and has won numerous certificates for theatre
and musical events. (S.A.A.C.) (N.A.P.A.C). She continued her passion for dance by
continuing to study different styles of dance: Jazz, African, Salsa and middle Eastern
dance while studying at University. She found her passion in Middle Eastern dance
while working in Japan. She continues to study Middle Eastern dance and is currently
studying the Suhaila Salimpour format (certification course). Suzette is well known
for having her own personal style, a blend of traditional with new. She believes that
dance is a celebration of life, a way of expressing oneself through movement in a more
artistic way, rather than dancing for ego or competing to be the best. She respects all
styles of dance and believes that we evolve as people and dancers as life goes on, each
dancer is different and unique within herself and we all express ourselves in different
ways through dance and movement. Professionally trained and certified in theatre,
dance, yoga, fitness and English language, she blends of all her experience and
knowledge to make her classes, exciting and educational. She is currently developing a
programme for kids : English through movement, a programme where kids learn
English through dance and yoga. Suzette is the founder and director of Desert
Mermaids Studio in Hong Kong. She is also the pioneer of Doga (Yoga with your Dog)
in Hong Kong and has been featured by Reuters, CNN, CNBC, Yahoo, TVB and other TV
stations globally. Her Doga DVD will hit shelves in September.

How it All Works:
Pet Project Malaysia is a non-profit charity event. Participating NGOs we support will
accept donations (monetary and others) as well as have the opportunity to advise
guests on proper animal welfare in Malaysia. All funds raised through booth rentals,
sponsorship, merchandise earnings, F&B earnings, coupon sales, etc will all be
donated straight to the cause. By doing something active and FUN, our participants
and guests can get fit and contribute to a great cause. On top of the main feature
(Master Classes by globally acclaimed talent) many other sport clinics and events will
be held at the same time to generate more income for the supported NGOs. There will
be something for EVERYONE (even if dance, sports and fitness isn’t your “thing”).
Held on 23rd March, 2013, at The British International School of Kuala Lumpur for the
SECOND year, Expatriate Lifestyle and BSKL have joined forces to exceed the first
project’s success. Running from 9am to 6am, collaborated efforts between all
sponsors, media partners, partners and volunteers will help host an ACTIVE and FUN
event in hopes of, once again, raising awareness and funds for the cause.
In 2012, the project was sponsored by a range of corporate companies as well as
schools across Malaysia. A true testament to how much support there actually is in
Malaysia for the welfare of animals, the event raised over RM23,000 for the animals in
need. On top of the funds raised on the day, media awareness raised was abundant
with Sabrina and the project being featured in various magazines (Expatriate
Lifestyle, Health & Beauty Magazine, Marie Claire, etc), TV (NTV7, Astro Supersport,
Bernama, TV3, etc), radio (HitzFM), Newspapers (The Star, New Straits Times, Malay
Mail, Sin Chew Daily, Oriental Daily, etc), Social Media and others (Nuffnang, Redberry
Magiqads, etc). The amount of young children who have now either adopted animals
or volunteered at local shelters exceeds hundreds just from this project alone. Local
celebrities such as Ning Baizura, Jojo Struys and Jay Menon also collaborated their
efforts in dedicating their talents to helping the cause.
Aiming to double (and then some!) January’s earnings, March 2013 will see an even
BIGGER and BETTER event. ALL for the animals.
Let’s all unite in “Getting Active to Help Save the Animals”.
