NEW CT SCANNER SHOWCASES SIEMENS’ COMMITMENT TO INNOVATION WITH ADVANCED WORKFLOW AND APPLICATIONS
Siemens Launches New SOMATOM Emotion CT at RSNA
CHICAGO, December 2, 2002 – The new SOMATOM Emotion computed tomography (CT) family, featuring its new flagship member the Emotion 6, will be unveiled at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), December 1-6 at McCormick Place, booth #1129. The Emotion 6 addresses diverse scanning needs of Radiology Departments, Emergency Rooms, Imaging Centers and Medical Group Practices, such as the need for high patient throughput and to perform advanced clinical applications while working effectively under constrained budget and space requirements. “Siemens understands that customer needs evolve over time, so we offer reassurance that we can meet their current and future requirements in one easily upgradeable system,” states Lorri Sarosy, product manager for Siemens Medical Solutions. “This concept makes the Emotion truly tailored to customer needs.” The Emotion is configurable in single, dual and six slice versions and goes beyond offering just multiple slice versions. In addition, it has included power options for a well-defined upgrade path from the single to six slice systems. The Emotion boosts a new state-of-the-art design, incorporating the features of adaptive array detectors, optimal tube and generator size, and the powerful CARE Dose program. This unique combination provides high quality images, volume scanning capabilities and the lowest possible patient dose. Although the gantry has been redesigned, the same slim profile was maintained for easy interventions, automatic patient positioning and very low siting requirements. The Emotion 6 also features the award winning syngo™ Windows-based software (over 10,000 installations worldwide!) shared among all Siemens Medical imaging modalities for a powerful solution to CT imaging needs.
The entire Emotion product line has always been the workhorse product for routine CT scanning of chest, abdomen and pelvis, with the ability to perform routine angiography, including integrated 3D visualization tools. The enhanced capabilities of the new Emotion 6 will improve patient throughput and bring volume scanning to the routine segment. For example, it will be possible to complete a 900mm peripheral angiography in 16 seconds with the Emotion 6. The new product is ideal for those routine customers who want to explore new and advanced clinical applications, such as Cardiac CT with HeartView, early visualization of clinically significant lung nodules using LungCARE and CT colonography. The Emotion product line fully compliments other the SOMATOM products, from the entry level SMILE, which features a “plug „n play” concept, to the advanced Sensation 16. Never before has Siemens Medical Solutions had a more comprehensive and versatile CT product line. Siemens Medical Solutions of Siemens AG (NYSE: SI) with headquarters in Malvern, Pennsylvania and Erlangen, Germany, is one of the largest suppliers to the healthcare industry in the world.
