							    The
Renaissance
                      History…
• The Renaissance followed after the Gothic period.
• People were ready for a change in architectural styles.
• The Renaissance was a new time, an enlightening for
  everyone.
• During this time, a focus was put on balance and symmetry.
What was done on one side was done on the other.
• Also instead of having such points like the Gothic. The
Renaissance had a more rounded affect and often had
  domes in their structures.
• Renaissance was during the Reformation and the difference
between the Protestant and catholic churches were
  evident.
During the Renaissance
time the barrel vault was
introduced, which offered
a more rounded look. Also
a lot of artistic detail was
added. In churches Biblical
stories were told by
paintings and stain glass
images. Protestant
churches at that time did
not allow such images in
the church, as it would be
a distraction. However the
Catholic church were full of
great artistic detail.
St. Peter’s
Basilica
Domes are very
common to
Renaissance
buildings as well as
Greek and Roman
characteristics.
St. Peter’s Basilica
is found in Vatican
City, where the
Renaissance had a
great affect.
