                           Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Carol’s Night
Whilst it was disappointing to have to cancel our evening performance of the
Carol’s we had a terrific turnout for our impromptu afternoon show.
Unfortunately neither of our two halls are quite big enough to safely
accommodate the large number of students and families we were expecting to
attend on Thursday night. The weather did not disappoint us with torrential
rain falling during the afternoon concert and again around 6pm. It was
certainly a long week for both the teachers and students being cooped up
inside. We thank all the parents, particularly the P&C volunteers who had
organized the Sausage Sizzle, Cake Stall and Raffle for their patience and
support of the decision.

Cook Book
We are delighted to announce that our School Cook Book is available to
purchase. The book has been commercially printed and includes some
fantastic recipes form parents, students and teachers. Alison Baxter is the
mastermind behind the project and has done an outstanding job in producing a
book of such high quality. I can personally recommend the Sticky Date
Pudding recipe as absolutely delicious and a firm favourite in my house! Cook
Books are available form the front office for $10.

Black Mountain
This week marks the end of our highly successful partnership with the Black
Mountain School. Unfortunately we have not been successful in securing
funding to continue the program next year. As a direct result of the
experience two students form Black Mountain have gained employment at
Cafe Ink, the Coffee Shop attached to the Woden Public Library. The
program has also provided selected students from Yamba the opportunity to
develop important life skills and connect with high school life.

A huge thank you to Pat and all the students for being such a positive part of
Gowrie this year and providing delicious lunches every Friday!

Thank you Afternoon Tea
Next Tuesday parents are invited to join us for afternoon tea in recognition
of the support they have provided the school and staff this year. We are
indebted to the large number of parents who support class programs,
excursions and special events. We have also had excellent support from the
P&C who have made a significant financial contribution to the school for the
purchase of classroom and ICT equipment, books and other resources. We
look forward to ‘thanking you’ personally next Tuesday at 2.45pm in the new
multi-purpose hall.

Kind regards

Judy Hamilton

                             COMMUNITY NEWS

                                                                         ACT POLICING

Dear Resident,

Unfortunately the approaching school holiday period means school grounds in
your area will be empty from 17 December 2010, to 4 February 2011, making
them easily accessible to would-be offenders.
ACT Policing will be increasing pro-active patrols around schools during the
holidays, but we are also asking you, the community, to assist us in ensuring our
schools remain secure.
Anyone who observes anti-social behaviour or suspicious activity around schools
is urged to report this to police immediately on 131 444. This includes suspicious
persons or vehicles seen at odd hours of the night, and any signs of potential
criminal activity such as the sound of breaking glass, spray cans or electrical
equipment being used at odd hours.

By working together with police you can help to ensure that our schools
remain secure over the holidays, allowing our children to get the education
they deserve.
