Unemployment Rate for Veterans High in Virginia but
EmploymentCrossing.com can Help
EmploymentCrossing.com gives hope to out-of-work veterans on this Veterans’ Day.
Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) November 13, 2012 -- Veterans Day is a time of year where the country honors those
who have served, however, on a daily basis, too many veterans are left without job opportunities. Nationally,
veterans have an unemployment rate of 6.3-percent but for those that joined the military after 9/11, that number
increases to 10-percent. This makes looking for work in military-heavy areas like Virginia difficult. Thankfully,
EmploymentCrossing.com, an employment site, has just posted an impressive number of job listings.
In August, the site recorded 2,763,722 open positions but in September, that number rose to 2,854,611. That’s
an increase of 3.2-percent, which is significant for job seekers as a whole, but it’s particularly beneficial for
unemployed veterans who may have failed to find work in other ways.
“Traditionally, veterans could make use of programs designed to reintegrate them into society after serving
their country,” says EmploymentCrossing.com’s CEO, A. Harrison Barnes. “However, with the economy such
as it is, those safety nets aren’t as reliable, making a site like ours vital when trying to search jobs.”
In Virginia, there are 822,000 veterans, according to the National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics,
making 45-percent of the economy in this area dependent on the military. A job fair was held in Virginia Beach
last week that brought over 700 veterans together to learn how to create résumés and market their skills to be
better able to secure employment. It is through the combined effort of local events like these, private employers,
and EmploymentCrossing.com the employment situation can be fixed for veterans across the country.
“We know finding an employment opportunity in this economy is tough for everyone, but it’s especially hard
on veterans,“ says Barnes. “It is my hope convenient websites for finding jobs like EmploymentCrossing.com
can remedy this situation for once and for all.”
