                  Time
People did not always
use time zones (or
clocks) – they would use
the sun to tell time.

What problems could
you see with doing this?
(write at least 2 in your
notes)
Changes with Keeping Time
When the U.S. started to expand past the
original colonies, it was more difficult to use
“sun” time.

As people started to travel and move
around the world more, it became difficult
to use “sun” time.
    Longitude Time Zones
A world-wide time-keeping
system was put into place in
1884 using longitude lines.
Time zones start at the Prime
Meridian
They continue every 15 degrees
There is a total of 24 time zones
(24 hours)
   Drawing the Lines

difficult to draw the time zone map.
