23 February 2004
3GSM Congress, Cannes
Global Messaging Leader, Mobileway, announced today the launch of two-way international short messaging
service (SMS) for yet another major Asian mobile operator; Hutchison CAT Wireless MultiMedia Limited, the
marketing service provider of CDMA 2000 1X technology in Thailand under the brand “Hutch”. The SMS inter-
working agreement signed allows Hutchison CAT Wireless Multimedia to offer full global SMS coverage to all its
subscribers, without having to negotiate hundreds of bilateral agreements with other operators.
Mobileway’s international connectivity enables mobile subscribers on different networks to send and receive SMS
messages and communicate across borders. Capitalising on the global explosion of SMS adoption and growth,
mobile operators are able to tap into a viable revenue stream to supplement their voice services. Mobileway’s
interoperability platform also supports number portability on a global basis, ensuring seamless delivery of all text
messages, even when subscribers move from one mobile carrier to the next.
Hutchison CAT Wireless MultiMedia’s international SMS service goes live this month in Thailand.
“Mobileway provides Hutchison CAT Wireless MultiMedia with an SMS interoperability platform capable of
delivering SMS to more than 500 operators around the world across GSM, TDMA and CDMA networks via a simple
one-stop-shop model,” said Cyrille Even, General Manager and Vice President of Mobileway Asia Pacific. “Mobile
operators are constantly looking for ways to increase revenue. With Mobileway’s SMS interconnect solution,
operators can generate higher revenue from the increased SMS traffic and subscribers are no longer restricted by
network or geography in sending and receiving SMS. And best of all, this is all done without additional investment
on the operator’s part.”
“Our partnership with Mobileway has helped Hutch to strengthen our data service offerings. Our subscribers are
now able to send text messages to friends using different networks across a large number of countries and
operators worldwide. By enabling subscribers to do this, Mobileway is also helping Hutch to generate greater SMS
traffic. The Mobileway partnership also provides a valuable and most welcome contribution to our efforts to
constantly expand and update our service for the benefit of both our existing and new subscribers” said Mr.
Stephen Sun, President & CEO of Hutchison CAT Wireless MultiMedia Limited.
