FAMILY DONATION IDEAS FOR THE AUCTION
Our family donations are a very poplar aspect of the auction. If you would
like to donate but are uncertain what to donate here are some ideas.
Donate items or time: handmade items, pre-paid parties (pool party,
wine tasting, fun for kids, guys/girls night out), gardening, monthly
delivered desserts, dinner parties, a ride to the airport, etc.
Sponsor the auction: make a family donation $25 to $1000.
Sponsor a teacher and their guest to attend the auction.
Join the Auction Team or volunteer to help on Auction Day.
The auction team will be available at the auction table in front of the school
before and after school on Wednesday through Friday to take any donations
or discuss ideas with you.

NDE t-shirts and sweatshirts are now on sale.
An order form was sent home in your child’s backpack or you can visit
www.ndepta.com to download a form. If you have any questions, please
contact Aimee Hasson at aimeehasson@yahoo.com. The deadline to
purchase is Friday, October 19.
In addition, if you have NDE t-shirts or sweatshirts your child has outgrown
and you would like them to go to a good home, bring them to school and
place them in “The Exchange Box” by the office.

“Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF” Kids Helping Kids.
Kids can go trick-or-treating and save lives at the same time! North
Davis students are again invited to participate in the United Nations
Children’s Fund annual fundraising event during the Halloween season.
UNICEF works in more than 160 countries and territories to provide children
with lifesaving medicine, nutrition, clean water, sanitation, education and
emergency relief. An estimated 7 million children are saved each year by
the efforts of UNICEF and its partners.
The spare change, bills and checks collected by children really makes a
difference in the world. Last year North Davis Elementary children raised
almost $800. Over the last 12 years North Davis students have raised
more than $17,000 for UNICEF. All that little change really adds up! For
example, $69 can supply a box of 10,000 tablets to purify drinking water. A
donation of $17 can keep a child safe from six killer diseases. A single dollar
can provide a starving child with protein biscuits. Trick-or-Treat for
UNICEF Permission slips will be given to students Friday, October
12. If your child would like to collect donations for UNICEF, please return
the permission form to the front office by Monday, Oct. 22. Boxes will
be distributed by Friday, October 26. If you have any questions, contact
Crystal O’Hara at 902-5530 or cryso98@yahoo.com.
KIDS IN MOTION FITNESS CORNER
Kids in Motion is in full swing now (Tuesdays for grades 4-6, Wednesdays for
Kindergarten and Jump Rope Club, and Fridays for grades 1-3). Be sure to ask your
students about the fun games they learn each week. We so appreciate the parents
who have signed up to volunteer with our program as well as our amazing UCD
interns!

Jump Rope Club
Wednesdays at lunch recess all students in grades 1-6 are welcome to join us for
Jump Rope Club! There is no sign up required to participate and students can stay for
as little or as long as they like. We work on individual rope skills (e.g., backward, criss-
cross, double unders) as well as partner jumping (e.g., rainbow, Chinese Wheel) and
group jumping (e.g., Double Dutch). We love it when students learn to do something
new! Grades 4-6 worked on the Cat’s Eye this week (ask your student if they
participated).
Please mark your calendars now for our first Assembly on Wednesday, November 7th.
Students in grades 4-6 will perform directly following lunch from 12:40-1:00. Students
in grades 1-3 will perform from 1:10-1:30.
We can always use other parent help, so please stop by if you are on campus/want to
assist.

Hike it, Bike it, I Like it Day!!
Almost 200 students checked in on Wednesday for the National Safe Routes to School
“Hike it, Bike it, I Like it! ” day. The day is dedicated to using your body to get to
school (no cars) and any student who walked or biked to school and checked in has
been entered into a random drawing for a variety of prizes. Prizes will be awarded next
week. This year, Clif Kid sponsored our event! They generously donated stickers and Z
bars for all participating students.

Active4.me Scanning Program
We currently have over 200 students registered to scan. If you are not yet registered,
come see us at the scanning station each morning 8:00-8:30 with any questions.
Who can participate?
Any student who walks or bikes to school can participate.
How does it work?
Students must be registered to participate. Once registered, students receive a
barcode scanner (like those used at gyms). Each day a student walks or bikes to
school he/she goes to the scanning station at the lunch tables near the bike racks to
have his/her barcode scanned. Once scanned in, you receive an email or text (if
interested) letting you know your child’s barcode has been scanned (they have arrived
safely to school).
How do I register my student?
Parents can register their students by going to northdavis.active4.me. Once
registered, print out the form, sign it and turn it in to receive a barcode scanner.
We registered/participated last year…what now?
If you still have your barcode card from last year, please reuse that and we can get
your student registered into their current class. If your card got lost, we can issue a
new card.
Where does my student go to scan?
We are set up at the lunch tables closest to the bike racks near 14th Street. This is
where we are able to gain internet access for our computers.
We will have our first Active4.me Appreciation PARTY on Wednesday, October
17…at 1:30 dismissal, students can stop by and see a bike blender in action and get a
cool drink as a thank you for their participation in the program!

Please do NOT contact the front office with any questions related to this
program. This is a PTA program. Contact Kristen Muir
(kristenmuir@sbcglobal.net or 530-219-7698)

Big THANKS goes out to the Davis Bike Club for donating multiple bike helmets
for students in need over the last month.

Please let me know if you are able to assist or have any questions, please contact me
via email at: kristenmuir@sbcglobal.net

Special thanks to the Korean families at NDE
for participating in our Fall Family Picnic!
Everyone enjoyed the special Korean foods and hospitality, especially the
Kimchee. Imagine our surprise when the families presented the PTA with
$400 in cash, the proceeds from selling their Korean food at the Picnic! It
was a very generous donation. The cultural diversity is one of the many
reasons why NDE is such a terrific school. The high level of parental support
is fantastic and helps keep our school going in these difficult economic
times.
Thanks to: Minyoung Lee, Suyoun Lee, Jisook Shin, Okki Kim, Heran Min,
Eunhee Park, Insoon Jung, Yunsoon Kang, Sojin Shin, Misun Jung, Hunsuk
Park, Juhyun Park, Soyoung Park, and Choya Yoon for their delicious food
and generous $400 donation!

Reminders:
Picture Re-Take Day on Friday, October 19th
Lifetouch will be at school on Friday October 19th if you would like to have a
picture retaken or missed it last month. Note: If you received photos and weren’t
happy with them, you must return the packet on Re-Take day. If it’s not obvious
what you don’t like about them, make a note on the envelope.
                      KIDS HELPING KIDS FOOD DRIVE
The Short-Term Emergency Aid Committee (STEAC) of Davis has been helping
families and individuals with basic necessities, food and clothing since 1967. A
third of our recipients are children.
The Annual Kids Helping Kids Food Drive will take place from Monday, October
8th through Friday noon, October 12th. A volunteer from STEAC will pick up
the donations on Friday afternoon, October 12th. A box will be available for
donations at each of the schools. Students who would like to contribute are
asked to bring the item assigned: NORTH DAVIS - canned fruit
Thanking you in advance for your participation!
The Board of Directors of STEAC, Davis
