                                                                 Course Title: Greenhouse Management

Title: Pinching Pennies and Maintaining a Thriving Business in Greenhouse and Nursery Management

Unit: 1            Greenhouse Management                                                                                      Total Duration: 1290 minutes (one class
                                                                                                                              period (90 minutes) a week for 14 weeks)


Overview/Annotation: Students will be required to research products needed for their specific nursery (plants, greenhouse and other structural material, pvc fittings and
pipe, gravel, maintenance costs, etc…) and provide a detailed expense and start-up cost report that they would show to a bank to acquire a small business loan. This
report will express everything from individual pot costs to a detailed depreciation schedule for equipment for tax purposes. Students will be required to provide a detailed
written narrative of their findings
Background/Preparation: Students will be provided with a general detailed list of materials that should be taken into consideration for purchase when starting a nursery.
Students will use previous knowledge, notes and horticultural related material to complete this assignment. This assignment will be worked on in class periodically ( once
a week) throughout the semester and will be turned in at the end of the semester. This is a term project. A prerequisite for this class is Computer Science. The reason for
this is because excel will be used extensively for the term project.

Remediation: Students who need extra help will be paired with another student on the second day of research. This will allow students to help one another with any
question they may have using PowerPoint. As expected I will be walking around the room to assist with any issues that may arise.


Accommodation: If a student has an IEP I will follow the guidelines and help them in any way possible so that they can complete the assignment.
