                                                            ELASUK
                                          Courses
At ELAS UK, we run full time English Language courses for students of all ages (minimum age 16), all year round. You can
enrol at any time and start any Monday.

Our methods and approach to teaching English are designed to help students develop their language skills in order to be able to
communicate effectively in an English speaking environment. Our lessons are based around topics which incorporate the basic skills of
speaking, listening, reading and writing. Our teachers use modern course books and audio-visual material. Every effort is made to make
your learning experience at ELAS UK both varied and exciting. Learner centred teaching is recognised as the most effective way to learn
languages. The Director of Studies guides all teachers in focussing on each individual’s language needs. Teaching includes all aspects of the
English language such as grammar, functions, phonology and vocabulary. We use interesting classroom activities carried out through pair
and group work to encourage interaction and to motivate students.

Class times - Lessons start at 9.00am Monday to Friday. Each lesson runs for approximately 1 hour and takes place from 9.00am to
12.15pm (morning session) and 1.30pm to 4.45pm (afternoon session). There is a 15 minute break in the middle of each session. Full
time English courses are 15 class hours per week, but students can add extra hours onto their program at an additional cost. Students
can be doing a full time General English course and also do extra study towards an exam e.g. IELTS or Cambridge exam.

All courses at our Leicester site are accredited by the British Council.

General English - You can study English at five different English language levels, ranging from elementary through to advance level and
you can start your classes on any Monday. These are good all-round courses to give a basic knowledge of English or to improve on
          skills that are already present.

IELTS - IELTS is for students who wish to have their level of English tested for university entrance. IELTS is usually required for entry
to UK colleges and universities and it tests the complete range of English language skills.
                                                               English Language Courses For Adults
                                                                                                                           ELASUK
                                                                                     Courses (Cont.)
Cambridge ESOL Exams - These courses enable you to work towards a range of internationally recognised
Cambridge ESOL qualifications at 3 levels, from upper intermediate to proficiency. Cambridge examinations in
English are known all over the world and are recognised by employers and institutions in many countries. As the
examinations cover the four language skills, i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing, they indicate the ability of
the certificate holder to communicate effectively in English. We offer courses using relevant course materials, and
extra homework help is available to practice for the exams.

Cambridge ESOL Exam Levels
Upper Immediate - First Certificate in English (FCE). This course is ideal if you can deal confidently with a
range of written and spoken communications.
Advanced Level - Certificate in Advanced English (CAE). This course is for students who can communicate
with confidence in English for work or study purposes.
Very Advanced Level - Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). This course is for students who have
achieved a high level of language skills and are able to function effectively in almost any English-speaking context.

Business English (BEC) - This course is for students who wish to improve their English language skills for a
career in business or if you are already working within a business environment. The ELAS Business English option
covers exam preparation for the Cambridge Business English Certificates (BEC). These exams are at 3 levels;
Preliminary, Vantage and Higher.

Academic English - The English for Academic Purposes is available throughout the summer and designed for
students preparing for University entry in autumn. This English course can be started on any Monday in July,
August or September for a period of 4 to 12 weeks.

Initially, most foreign students find studying at a British University difficult to cope with due to the difference in
style of teaching compared to their country of origin. The English for Academic Purposes course will enable
students to make progress quickly, and effectively adjust to the new ways of teaching found in UK universities.

One-to-One English - Our one-to-one English Language Courses are ideal for students who wish to learn
English in England for specific purposes, e.g. business, finance or law. The one-to-one courses are also suitable
for students who just want extra personal tuition to enhance their learning.

All courses will run subject to minimum student numbers.

that may occur. If you need to see a doctor, ELAS UK can arrange an appointment for you as a “Temporary Resident”, however you may be charged for
this (depending on government reciprocal agreements). If you need hospitalization, you will be treated at a NHS hospital but again you must ensure you
have adequate insurance to cover any medical expenses. Our School Administrator will assist you in making appointments with doctors or dentists if you
need treatment during your stay. If you are not a national of an EU country or a country which has a reciprocal health agreement with Britain, you may
have to pay for medical treatment in Britain.
