The Official George Tran Page We all know George Tran as the creator of 1Shoppingcart.com, a hugely successful shopping system. But in his real life, he is much more than just an entrepreneur and a programmer. Early life Born in Saigon of Vietnam, George emigrated as a boat refugee to Australia in the year 1979, as his family escaped the Vietnamese Communist invasion. At that time, he was only 9 years old and knew nothing about English. He was brought up in Sydney in the suburbs of Parammatta, and he went to the Arthur Phillip High, a disadvantaged inner-city high school. After graduating as one of the top 5% of the class, he went further to study in the Sydney University, one of the most reputed universities in Australia. George attained a Computer Science graduate degree in the year 1991. After this, he went to work with Symantec Corporation, and by the age of 22, he was the technical support supervisor with Symantec for the Asia Pacific region. In December 1993, he emigrated to the United States to work with his company’s new tech support operation of Eugene, Oregon. At Symantec, his responsibility was to implement and roll out their support customer tracking system around the world. While being employed at Symantec, he also got enrolled for MBA at the Oregon University, and then quit Symantec to do his full-time Masters. He completed his MBA in 1997. Starting of entrepreneurship George became an entrepreneur with the launching of GTA Technologies, a company which offered web hosting services, and was the first one to offer free shopping cart and ecommerce solution over the Internet. With this free ecommerce solution, he accumulated more than 10,000 merchants in a very short period of time. After this, George created 1Shoppingcart.com, which facilitated online marketing companies to build a shopping cart system which integrates sequential autoresponder system as well as affiliate tracking system. An entire team of programmers will take more than 6 months to create a system like 1Shoppingcart.com, but George alone created it in just 3 months, which is a success in itself. In no time, millions of online marketing companies started using 1Shoppingcart.com. After retirement After selling his interests in 1Shoppingcart.com to his partner Rob Bell in 2002, he decided to retire at 32 years. After this, he invested huge amounts in real estate and a few Internet start-up ventures. Unfortunately, due to the economic downturn and the housing bubble, George Tran, like most other real estate investors, lost his fortune and came near bankruptcy. But in 2012, he came up with Mango Tree Mobile, a new platform that facilitated small business transmissions into mobile marketing. He wrote ‘The Social Mobile Marketing Guide for Small Businesses’ in just 14 days and released it as an online eBook absolutely for free.
