PROS Pledges Another $25,000 Toward Campus Beautification at MDH

which included Health Services Buildings (HSB) 1 and 2.
The landscape designs for the north side of HSB 1 and the entire east side
(front entrances) of HSB 1 and 2 consisted of new plants, perennials, bushes,
and trees; stones and boulders; and mulching. In addition, new signage received
a more defined look, and the HSB parking lot islands were improved by adding
                                   new stones and rock.
This facelift on the MDH campus began in 2011 when PROS pledged $20,000 for Phase I of the Campus
Beautification project, which encompassed the main and front entrance, signage, and Grant Street areas. To date, the
MDH PROS has donated $45,000 in support of MDH and the Campus Beautification projects!

“President/CEO Message” continued from page 1
The hospital has signed agreements to add ENT specialist Dr. Jeff Sparks in August 2013 and psychiatrist Dr. Sajjad
Sarwar to join Dr. Wright in July 2013.
We are working with partners throughout the region to help ensure continued access to quality patient care close to
home. Recently, we partnered with Dr. John Arnold to recruit a nurse practitioner to work part-time in his Bushnell
office and part-time serving the needs of MDH in the ER and in Convenient Care. We are also happy to announce
we have been working with Western Illinois University to assist them in ensuring continued physician coverage at Beu
Health Center in times of absence, further strengthening a great community partnership and ensuring access to care on
campus. In addition, we continue to explore opportunities to collaborate with local and regional healthcare providers
to solve and meet needs their communities or patient populations may face.
MDH is focusing on providing a positive work environment for staff and physicians with quality facilities and care
for our patients. These items are part of the Strategic Plan the Board of Directors approved in April 2012. There are
six main components to our plan with four areas of concentration under each. These items will guide MDH and its
employees, Medical Staff, and leadership over the next three years.

MDH actively plans to ensure we emerge as a regional leader in health care, both as a place to receive care as well as
a place to provide care. The components listed, along with many other initiatives at MDH, will set us apart from other
care providers in west-central Illinois. Our plan will provide a facility our community, employees, and physicians can
be proud to call “theirs” and allow us to remain a strong partner in making Macomb and west-central Illinois a great
place to live.

Nursing, started his career at MDH in June of 2006. He is currently an RN
in Acute Care.
“It’s an honor to receive this award knowing that it comes from the students.
They have such a large group of nurses to pick from, and I can’t imagine I do
more than the rest of the nursing staff,” said Engel about receiving the award.
Nursing students from SRC chose Patty Gutting, LPN, as Nurse of the Year
for her willingness to go above and beyond in helping the nursing students to
achieve their clinical goals. Her nominators said, “She is a very good teacher
by questioning us to help enhance our learning during our clinical rotation.
She has a positive attitude.” Gutting started her career at MDH in December
