Board of Directors Elections
Every October at the annual meeting, the Neighborhood
Representatives elect residents to fill the open positions on the Board
of Directors. The Board is currently made up of three Directors from inside
the non-gated neighborhoods and four Directors from the gated

Continued on Page 5 you decide not to hire a landscaping professional and want to
take on this task yourself, here are some helpful tips that will
hopefully assist with the process.
The Association’s rules state that street trees must provide
proper clearance for pedestrians.
Remove any diseased or dead branches. Cut off flush with
the trunk.
Avoid over-trimming. Excessive thinning with certain trees
can actually damage them.
Seal all cuts with a non-phototoxic wound sealer.
Pruning lower branches near the trunk is important. Weak
limbs often break during storms because of the high winds
that cause them to sway back and forth.
Cut branches less than 3/4 inch in diameter with sharp
hand pruners. You may cut branches with a diameter over
1 inch with a hand-held pruning saw. Please take proper
safety measures.
When in doubt, call a professional landscaping company.
There are many local businesses (check the newsletter
advertisements!) that will trim your street tree at a
reasonable price.

As the days get longer and the sun
gets hotter, numerous residents take
advantage of the great summer weather and begin projects to
enhance the outside of their homes. Many of the applications
for improvement are the same: house paint, fencing and screen
enclosures. While it is great to begin and end a project in a
timely manner, it is important to know what the Architectural
Control Guidelines allow and if your project qualifies. It is
also imperative that you apply to the ARC before commencing
work. A failure to apply prior to the change of your exterior
may result in violations and yet more headache. To help you
on your way, read below for a crash course in ARC 101!
Applying to the ARC can appear daunting and time consuming
when trying to accomplish everything last minute; therefore,
starting the process early helps to make the procedure stress-
free. Rushing to complete or obtain additional information is
avoidable by submitting applications early. You can call the
Pool Office at any time to inquire about your project needs or
read the ARC Guidelines on the website, VistaLakesFL.com.
Included in the Architectural Control Guidelines are details
such as fencing specs, landscaping requirements and even a list
of suggested vegetation. Reading this information beforehand
will help to ensure that your intended project is allowed, saving That the Architectural Review Committee

additional paperwork such as the Appendix

to be included. The item most people
tend to leave out is the lot survey. Used to
demonstrate the location of change on your
property, the lot survey may be found in
your closing papers or you might need to
ask your closing title company for help.
As stated on the application itself, the
committee meets “the first Wednesday
of each month. Deadline for submitting
request is noon the Monday prior to the
first Wednesday of the month”. Confused
yet? That just means the application
needs to be turned in two days before the
meeting. Remember, it is the responsibility
of the resident to turn in an application
completed and on time, even if you are
receiving help from a contractor or staff.

helps to maximize property values.
Read below to gain a few answers to some of the most common
ARC questions:
Q. Do I need to submit an application to paint the outside
of my home?
A. Filling out an application for painting is only required when
choosing a new color scheme; however, you must choose
from one of the 176 approved schemes and you cannot mix
and match or do partial schemes. These can be viewed at
the Pool Office seven days a week.
Q. What do I need to put a fence up around my house?
A. If you are having the work done by a contractor, ask if they
are able to help you complete your application. If you are
planning the work yourself, read through the Guidelines
online or inquire at the Pool Office.
Q. This is a lot of information! How can I get a copy of the
Guidelines?
A. As stated above, all of the information you need for the ARC
application process is available online at VistaLakesFL.com.
Application, additional paperwork and Guidelines are all
available there. If you do not have internet access, the staff,
