Parents and technology
chool is beginning and parents run about to see to their
children’s needs. It’s interesting how commerce turns that
into a school-supplies selling marathon. Since things are
no longer the same economically speaking, many prepared their
lists and are being very careful when spending their money. The
complicated part of this is that is consumer confidence is not
restored, sales and commerce will continue to be affected.
The economy is not yet reestablished and winter is almost upon
us, which makes things even a bit slower. Something I do see is Félix A. Valderrama
that things have changed so much that quite recent economic
theories and statistics are now outdated.
Things are changing fast and it’s important to keep moving to the rhythm of the
present day. It is also extremely important for parents to learn to use technology.
Almost everything we use on a daily basis has an electronic element. By not being able
to use technology, one becomes an invalid of these times.
There are many parents who can use a phone nimbly, but it is not enough: the Inter-
net in our homes can be an ally or an enemy. The Internet brings us a deep source of
information and knowledge that can be used to our benefit and at the same time help
our children. But, if it is only the kids who have access to it, it may be invading the
privacy of our homes. Social media sites, like Facebook, have become quite popular
nowadays, making it easy to connect with anyone. These types of connections may
open doors to abuse from people who only want to intrude into our own privacy. It is
vital that we keep watch of who our children interact with, because in front of a com-
puter not everyone is saint.
So, in short, avoid damage by ignorance, and stay alert on everything to do with new
technologies and social media.
