Walkerton town hall meeting
Communications Staff
November 20, 2003
Western professors will be in Walkerton on Nov. 20 as part of a town hall meeting to
outline the findings of the Walkerton Health Study Screening Clinic. At 7:30 p.m. in
Walkerton's Victoria Jubilee Hall researchers from London Health Sciences Centre
(LHSC), Lawson Health Research Institute, McMaster University and Western will
discuss new findings related to diabetes and kidney abnormalities and outline this
year's plans for the Screening Clinic. The Walkerton Health Study Screening Clinic is
a seven-year initiative, now in its second year. It monitors 4,000 people in Walkerton
for long-term medical difficulties as a result of the E. coli outbreak in the town's water
supply in May 2000. The Clinic is led by LHSC in London. Western doctors Marina
Salvadori, assistant professor in the Department of Paediatrics, John Howard, professor
in the Departments of Medicine and Paediatrics, Rita Suri, research fellow in the
Department of Medicine, William Clark, professor in the Department of Medicine,
and Jennifer McNab, Amit Garg, and Louise Moist, all assistant professors in the
Departments of Medicine and Epidemiology and Biostatistics, will be at the event.
