                         EDUCATION COMMITTEE REPORT

I would like to start by thanking our illustrious Executive Director, Mr. Jeff Ellison, for his
dedication and time commitment to our educational programs. Jeff has been instrumental in building
valuable sponsor relationships, assuring we continue to have quality programs at affordable prices. I
would also like to thank Steve Prugh for providing me the opportunity to continue serving our section as
the Education Committee chairman.

The 2011 spring education series began once again with the Bandon Dunes Workshop and the
Sweet 16 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort. The Bandon Dunes Playing and teaching workshop took
advantage of our local talent on the Oregon coast and featured guest instructors Grant Rogers, Christopher
Smith, John Kawasoe and Rob Rannow for an informative gathering with some fantastic golf.

The Sweet 16, sponsored by Taylor Made Golf and Food Services of America, brought in
renowned business consultant, Mr. Stewart R. Levine from Manhattan, New York for a comprehensive
presentation on “Positioning yourself for success in a dynamic golf business…”. Stewart did a fabulous
job of involving the group to stimulate valuable discussions with some of our local successful
professionals to draw out fascinating insight into where our industry is leading us and how to succeed in a
changing business world.

As part of the Sweet 16 seminar series, Christopher Smith and Darren Painter gave fascinating
insight into new neuroscience research and exercises to improve physical performance through the mental
side of the game. Randy Henry introduced new technology with a presentation on teaching golf using an
indoor simulator and Taylor Made Golf provided a look at their new and innovative golf equipment.
Please give John Johnson and Taylor Made a big “thank you” for their support of our section’s continuing
education opportunities.

Our National Director of Education, Dawes Marlatt Jr. was on hand in Coeur d’Alene to
introduce a recently adopted program to acquire leading experts in a variety of fields related to the golf
industry to tour select sections throughout the U.S. The Pacific Northwest Section was one of the select
few to qualify and host this special seminar program. It was a great opportunity for our members in
attendance to experience a talented individual in Stewart Levine, sharing his secrets to personal growth
and success. Dawes Marlatt was instrumental in making this happen in our section and it was great to see
an old friend from the Inland Empire Chapter return home.

The fall education line-up at the PGA Show in Portland is another great opportunity to pick up
MSR points as we begin a new 3-year cycle for membership requirements. Brad Racine and Titleist have
sponsored an amazing opportunity to participate in a teaching seminar presented by the world renowned
short game guru, Stan Utley and one of the nation’s leading instructors featured regularly on The Golf
Channel, Todd Anderson, who has the honors of the 2010 PGA National Teacher of the Year. This is a
rare opportunity to learn from two of the most successful instructors in the industry… don’t miss this one.

Matt Haneline from Callaway Golf will be presenting on Club Fitting at the Red Tail Golf Center
leading into our Portland Show Demo Night and John Bryan from U.S. Kids will cover “Club Fitting for
Young Golfers” at the Expo Center during the show dates. For details, please check PNWPGA.COM.

All MSR requirements will remain the same for the current 3-year cycle ending in June 2013.
You are required to have 54 total points with at least 12 points in meeting hours and a minimum of 12
points in education hours for the current cycle. There are additional opportunities to acquire points by

taking online courses through PGALINKS.COM or you may take other online courses not necessarily
affiliated with PGALINKS.COM. Guidelines for the requirements and procedures to validate the course
for MSR eligibility are available at PGALINKS.COM.

In closing, I want to thank the many of you who provided me with new ideas and assistance,
allowing our section to continue providing constructive and informative educational opportunities. I
would also like to ask that you please thank our local sales representatives from Titleist, Taylor Made,
Callaway and U.S. Kids for their support. Without them, most of us would be priced out of these great
educational opportunities to enhance our careers.

Respectfully submitted,

Andy Mackimmie

                                    MEMBERSHIP REPORT

I would like to congratulate all the new members and apprentices that made their way through the
ever changing membership process into the PGA of America. I have no doubt that their hard work and
effort will make them great PGA Professionals.

As of October of 2010, we’ve had 40 new PGA members, and 47 newly registered PGA
Apprentices across our section.

If by chance, you are one of “those old apprentices,” please make sure you are up to speed with
transition timelines:

1) Current Level One testing was conducted through June 2011. If you didn’t complete testing by then,
you must now transfer into the new program AND pay a transfer fee to access qualifying courses.

2) Current Level Two testing will be conducted through June 2012.

3) Current Level Three testing will be conducted through June 2013.

Furthermore, it is extremely important for all employers to understand the process by which we
register new professionals. Applicants must register and pass the Qualifying Level Testing, have a
qualifying PAT score, AND must register with the section to become an actual apprentice. This includes
an Orientation with a Chapter or Section Orientation Committee Member. The committee members can
be located in your member handbook, or by calling your section or chapter office.

At this point, I haven’t heard much with regards to feedback on the new program process.
Testing includes an Introduction to the PGM and the Golf Profession, PGA Constitution, and Rules of
Golf (we are NO longer conduct rules tests in person). Applicants must also complete a background test
through PGALINKS.com. I’ve been told that the entire process can be taken care of in a few weeks.

Please contact me at your convenience if you have questions regarding this process, or anything
else related to orientation and membership.

Love the game and play more golf!

                          MERCHANDISE SHOW COMMITTEE

Thank you all for attending this year's Merchandise Show. I hope the nice breakfast was worth
the early wake-up call. If you came just for the meeting, please adjust your schedule and spend a couple
of hours roaming the show floor. You’ll see many familiar faces and be glad you stayed.

This year's Show includes approximately 125 booths representing 300 companies. Over 200
representatives will be on the floor to show you their products and answer your questions. The holidays
are fast approaching so find some gift items and special apparel pieces to spruce up the shop come
December. The sales representatives spend their time and money participating to make our jobs easier so
please support them by placing orders.

An added bonus for your support is a frequent door prize drawing. Several vendors have
generously donated items to be given away throughout the day. Plan to write your holiday and spring
orders while you're here – the more orders you write, the greater chance you have to win!

Jenna Moye, Merchandise Show Director, has done a tremendous job putting together a very
successful three day event. She stepped in to the role less than a year ago and has performed admirably.
This year's Show is back in Portland due to input from all participants. We surveyed the sales
representatives last winter and confirmed what we already knew: there is no time or location that will
make everyone happy. We will continue searching for the best possible combination for all involved.
Jenna and I welcome your comments and suggestions for future shows.

Thank you again for attending and a huge thank you to the entire Section staff for all of their hard
work!

Respectfully submitted,

Stephanie Malone

                                       RULES COMMITTEE

Another successful year for your Rules Committee is now in the books. Successful, from the
standpoint that we had rules committee members present for all six of our major championships, the
Oregon Senior Open and two qualifying tournaments for the Champions Tour Boeing Classic. Rules
Committee members participating this past year consisted of Steve Stensland, Don Smith, Jim
Hofmeister, Roy Eckersley, Perry Williams, Keith Johnson, Jim Wise and the undersigned. In addition to
the assigned rules committee member(s), we always had Molly Cooper and/or Jeff Ellison on hand to
provide extra on site help and consultation.

As those of you that play in one or more of our section events know, we rules officials do a bit
more than just hang out in our "official cart" waiting for someone to call for rules help. We also monitor
pace of play, help in ball searches, with our 5 minute timepiece in hand, and we hope, generally try to
make your playing experience more pleasant. Speaking for all of us, we thank you for the kind "thanks"
we hear from a large number of participants.

In addition to the job benefits, we do get other pluses. We get to watch players make great shots,
at times, and sometimes not-so-great shots. Personally I love watching the sport and learning from
swings I see. I would like to pass on one personal experience from this year’s final qualifier for the
Champions Tour Boeing Classic. During play, one participant asked whether or not he could use a
Stretching Cord (Bungee) between holes to loosen his back. As many of us have seen or heard over the
past couple years, use of artificial devises or unusual equipment, or using any equipment in an unusual
manner is prohibited, can result in disqualification (i.e., Julie Inkster with the weighted donut) Rule 14-3a.
For the answer to this specific question, consult The Decisions On The Rules Of Golf 14-3/10.5.

I thank you for the opportunity to serve,

Mike Miller

Rules Committee Chairman

                                TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE

I would first like to say thank you to all of our tournament sponsors, players, and host sites during
the 2011 season. Our continued relationship with sponsors like Sterling Savings Bank, Advanced H2O,
and Rosauers Supermarkets, to name a few, have made our tournament program one of the best in the
country. I would also like to thank the 2011 Tournament Committee members for this year. They
include: Mike Miller, Jon Schrader, Mark Keating, Rob Gibbons, Matt Mandell, Rob Clark, Mark
Gardner, and Ryan Malby.

The Tournament Committee made a big change this past season by implementing a NET division
in our PNW Section majors. We eliminated the senior division in favor of the NET division so all
members and apprentices in our Section could benefit from this change. This was done for a number of
reasons; the biggest of those was to attract those professionals who we felt were not playing in our
majors. This division was contested and paid out over 36 holes to those players who missed the cut. Our
number of players paid in the NET division ranged from 3 to 5 professionals for each event, and of the 15
total people who won NET money this season, there were no repeat winners. We felt this was a great
thing! I ENCOURAGE YOU TO PLAY IN A SECTION MAJOR NEXT YEAR, with this added NET
purse, there is an opportunity for everyone to win some money!!

Speaking of purses, I wanted to point out how our Section major purses have increased over the
last two seasons thanks to the change to our Section tournament funding model. From every Chapter pro-
am a $2.50 fee from every pro, and $3.50 or $5.00 fee from every amateur (depending on the Chapter)
comes to the Section. This model has produced the following purses in 2011 and percentage increase
over 2009: WA Open Invitational- $170,325 (343% increase); OR Open Invitational- $68,165 (26%
increase); Rosauers Open Invitational- $135,000 (0% increase); NW Open Invitational- $68,210 (41%
increase); PPC- $72,000 (41% increase). Our purse amounts are increasing, come and play an event in
2012! Our 2012 schedule is already on the PNW PGA website, so find an event that fits into your
calendar next season!

If you played in a Section major this year, you received an email communication about a tournament
survey after each of our majors. I wanted to share some of the important responses from those surveys
with everyone:

    1. Of all the survey responses combined, 97% (227 of 235) said “YES” they would sign up for the event(s)

                             HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

The Pacific Northwest Section PGA Hall of Fame was established in 1981 to honor and perpetuate the
memory of PGA Professionals and friends of the Section who have distinguished themselves by their
contribution to the Section and the game of golf. PGA Professionals are honored who have made an
overall contribution as a player, teacher, administrator or who have served the Section through
distinguished service.

                                      RON HOETMER, PGA

The son of PGA member John Hoetmer, Ron Hoetmer dedicated his career
to service in the golf industry—service to his membership, service to his
fellow PGA Professionals and service to the game. In his 45 year career,
Ron has served at just three Washington clubs – Sand Point GC in Seattle,
Fairwood G&CC in Renton and Overlake G&CC in Medina. Ron’s
dedication to enhancing the careers of his fellow professionals was
recognized in 1990 when he was awarded the PGA of America’s Bill
Strausbaugh Award. One of his proudest personal achievements is his role
in helping found the Washington Junior Golf Association in 1976.

What does the Pacific Northwest Section Junior Golf Fund support?

The Junior Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)3 charity which supports a wide variety of activities. Past beneficiaries
include: The PNW PGA Junior Golf Fund Scholarship Program for PGA Member children and
grandchildren; The First Tee of Olympia; The Inner City Youth Programs of Seattle and Tacoma; LPGA
Urban Youth Program in Portland; The Children’s Course, near Portland; Montana Junior Golf
Academy; and various other groups.

How does the program work?

All pro-am and tournament winnings in both the section and the chapters are paid through the Section
Office. At the end of the year, the Section issues a 1099-MISC form for tax purposes to all professionals
who win more than $600. An invoice for 1% of the total would be enclosed with the 1099 for each
member of the 1% club. This amount is tax deductible.

There is no need to sign up each year thereafter. Your membership will automatically be renewed each
year unless you cancel by April 1.

How do I sign up?

Complete the form below, detach, and fax or mail to the Section Office or deliver to Pacific Northwest
Section Staff Member. Also, forms are available by contacting the Section Office.
