Deciding if it is Time to Send Your Child to Preschool When your child is the right age to head out to preschool, it is important that you do not send your child to preschool just because you are told it is time. Your child may be ready earlier than the average child or you may find that your child needs some more time to prepare. For preschool, it is important that your child has spent some time away from you. Whether that means that your child has a play date with other children at a friend’s house throughout the week and you leave the house or even spending time alone with grandparents or a babysitter. Troubles in the Beginning You do not want your child to struggle with separation anxiety throughout the entire time that they are in their preschool class. If your child is not used to spending time apart from you, you may want to start introducing time apart in small doses with someone that your child is comfortable with. Eventually, your child will get familiar with the idea that you have left but you are going to come back. This way, when you drop your child off for preschool, they will have the ability to realize that you are going to come back and see them at the end of their class. Throughout the time that they are in preschool, they will start being able to grasp the idea of the schedule that has been set up for them. The preschool lesson plans can provide your child with structure that they are able to enjoy and even start to familiarize themselves with schooling. Lesson Plans The preschool lesson plans often incorporate a lot of arts and crafts. These give the children the opportunity to get hands on with what they are learning and will also help them develop their small motor skills to ensure they are able to work with their hands and create. Talk with a few different preschool teachers, so you can be sure that you find someone that has a similar attitude about preschool to yourself. This way, you can be sure that you are happy with the preschool lesson plans that are used throughout the time your child is in preschool. Endurance Will Increase In the beginning, you may find that your child is very tired when he or she is done with a preschool class. Preschool classes can be exhausting when your child is not used to a class setting and to interacting with so many different children at once. Create a schedule that allows your child to get some sleep after they get home from preschool. This way, you can be sure that they are able to function throughout the rest of the day and that they are able to sleep that night when it is time to go to bed. It can be difficult to send your child to preschool and establish a beneficial schedule with your preschool aged child. Prepare yourself for the challenge and you may find that it is well worth it in the end. Photo Credit: Jason L. Parks, gemsling
