HTERT expression in chronic and aggressive periodontitis patients Authors: Dr. Arindam Saha (3rd yr PGT), Dr. Debabrata Kundu (HOD), Dr. Prasanta Bandhopadhyay (Professor), Dept. of Periodontics, Dr. R Ahmed Dental College & Hospital. Human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) is a ribonucleoprotein that maintains telomere end and is associated with several inflammatory responses. Periodontal diseases is multifactorial disease in which the breakdown of connective tissue and bone initiated by intermediate mechanism that lies between inflammatory stimulation and tissue destruction with the production of cytokines, which stimulates inflammatory events that activate effector mechanism. The aim of this study was performed to determine the expression, at translational levels of hTERT in the patients with chronic (n=6) and aggressive (n=6) periodontitis compared to normal (n=6). This might have helped to understand the role of hTERT in pathogenesis, diagnostic as well as therapeutic significance for management of patients suffering from periodontal diseases. Key word: hTERT, chronic periodontitis & aggressive periodontitis.
