TROUPE NEWSLETTER - March 2011
All of the kids are working very hard in Troupe rehearsals as we lead up to our first performances for the year. Please keep
coming in to film the routines and making sure that your kids put in some time at home to practice their dances. Troupe
music CDs are available for $5 at the front desk.
Thank you to Narelle Martin for making the amazing props for the 16/under Troupe routine "Saturday Night".
Congratulations to the Extension Program students who recently performed at the Masquerade Ball and the first world wide
dance CARNIVAL for kids. Congratulations to Drama student Fin McNeil who was recently cast in a movie.
The Troupe tracksuits are coming soon. I am currently negotiating with overseas manufacturers to get
some custom made. I really want to try and have something unique, but I'm also aware that we have to keep it affordable for
the Commotion Families. We will be doing a hoodie, trackpants and t-shirt. We will also be selling optional black Satin
boxing-style robes to cover the costumes whilst the kids are at eisteddfods. When we get samples of the tracksuits for sizing
I'll let you know. The anticipated cost is around $75 for the tracksuit - but of course I will do everything possible to make it
even cheaper... please keep this in mind, as this will need to be paid as soon as the samples are in.
For the upcoming performances at Camden Show and Royal Easter Show the kids will be wearing the new t-shirts (that
come as part of the tracksuit) and their own denim shorts or pants or overalls. Hair will be in a super neat pony-tail with an
elastic that matches the hair colour. Remember to use copious amounts of product to keep away those dreaded whispy-bits.
I don't want the kids to wear ANY make up for these outdoor performances, except for the 16/under and Open Age Troupes,
who should only wear regular day to day make-up - not stage make up.
The Commotion Kids 2012 USA Tour - In 2012 we're inviting all of the Commotion Kids
and their families to join us on an exciting dance tour of America. It is not compulsory, and it will probably be costly, but I can
promise that will be an amazing experience enjoyed by not just the kids but also the parents. I have arranged with a few
different specialty dance travel companies to organise quotes. At the moment the proposed trip would entail...
Disneyland - performance
Performance at a big dance competition held in L.A.
Six Flags Roller Coaster park
Universal Studios + backlot tour
Hollywood home tour etc.
Private dance classes exclusively for our kids aged 9 to 20 at the best studios in L.A.
with world-class life-changing teachers and choreographers like Wade Robson, Tabitha and Napoleon, Kyle
Hanagami, Mia Michaels and more.
Mexican Riviera Cruise
The kids would be the entertainment on the ship and would get an EXTREMELY discounted rate. The cruise would
tour the islands and would be a fun relaxing experience for not just the kids but the parents.
New York (this would be an optional extra, for those that want to extend their trip. New York is my favourite place to visit. It
would be more suited for the kids that are 10/over - but is going to be open to anyone who would like to come and I know
the parents in particular will also really enjoy every moment.)
Seeing 5 of the BEST Broadway Musicals
Sight-seeing/Tourist stuff - all the famous NYC landmarks
Shopping, shopping and more shopping
Flash dance mob in Times Square for kids, siblings and parents
Famous Rockette's dance workshop
Backstage tour of one of the musicals
The costings will be available soon and then we can discuss the viability of our plans and start to get numbers of who is
coming. This tour will be booked completely through the agency and will be organised through them.
THE FUNDRAISING PLAN...
Last year we managed to raise quite a sizable amount for the Queensland trip. This year we're going to need to be even
more on the ball with our fundraising in order to raise the HUGE amount that would be required for an exciting extravagant
The feedback that I received the most was that it wasn't fair that the money was distributed evenly when the amount of
fundraising effort wasn't shared evenly. The same parents constantly put their names down to help. Now I am a traditionalist
when it comes to fundraising and I have a strong belief that the whole point is that it benefits the entire team. Otherwise we
could all just go and get extra jobs and keep the money to put towards our own kids' ticket. I also don't like pressuring
parents into fundraising... it should be totally voluntary and no one should decide to help because they're are guilted into it.
However... I also see the need for those who give more time to be rewarded accordingly. I have therefore constructed this
***THE POINT SYSTEM***
Each child in Troupe automatically receives 50 points to start.
Every BBQ, and fundraising event that your help is measurable by time (ie. 3 hours helping at the Disco) is going to earn the
volunteers 3 points per hour.
Every Friday night dinner is worth a total of 15 points (shared between the people that organise and cook).
Taking on an entire fundraising event and organising it totally will be rewarded by points commensurate with the profits
made from the event.
Every prize (if it's value is over $25) that's brought in or donated is worth 2 points.
If sizable donations are given by businesses and organisations due to the direct influence of a specific parent, they will be
given points accordingly.
Other points will be given out based on time given to the cause. All points need to be signed off by me. The chart will be
behind the desk and will not be posted publicly. This isn't a competition of who can help the most... just simply a reward
system for the allocation of the raised money.
At the end of the fundraising time, all of the money raised collectively will be divided by however many points there are. Say
if we collectively raise $65,000 and there are a total of 11,540 points that have been given over the course of the next 15
months then we'll divide the money made by the points (in this example we'd end up with an individual point value of $5.63).
Then the money would be shared out accordingly.
But... that doesn't include the non-collective fundraising. ie. Raffles, Chocolates etc. Anything that is directly measurable by
goods sold, 100% of the profits will go directly towards your child's individual fundraising account. This will be given back to
you in time for the first major payment of the trip.
Please note that all money raised remains the property and responsibility of Commotion Kids Fundraising Team, until it is
distributed prior to booking of the trip. If for any reason you decide not to go on this trip, or your child is not dancing with us
in 2012, any money raised personally will be put into the group fund.
WE STILL NEED HELPERS FOR THE BUNNINGS BBQ THIS SUNDAY - IF YOU CAN HELP FOR TWO
HOURS PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME DOWN ON THE LIST ON THE NOTICE BOARD TONIGHT. ALSO, PLEASE WRITE
ABOUT THE BBQ ON FACEBOOK AND ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO COME AND BUY SOME LUNCH.
EASTER RAFFLE - WE ARE DOING AN EASTER RAFFLE as our first MAJOR fundraiser for the year.
EVERY TICKET YOU SELL IS $2 DIRECTLY INTO YOUR PERSONAL FUNDRAISING ACCOUNT!!!
We need prizes. I'm asking every Troupe student to bring in a chocolate egg or bunny, or Easter themed gift. We will put all
the items together into 12 amazing Easter hampers. We also need baskets. Please bring in your donation by Friday 1st
April. You will soon receive a raffle ticket pack with 20 tickets to sell for $2 each. You are welcome to take as many packs as
you think you'll be able to sell.
You need to bring the money and tickets back by Friday 8th April at the very latest. This is when the raffle will be draw.
Winners will be notified by phone.
We will not accept tickets into the barrel unless the money is handed in at the front desk for those tickets. The money will be
recorded next to your child's name and kept for you until later in the year. Remember that to sell tickets and forget to hand
them in is technically considered fraud and is illegal.
There will be a TROUPE MEETING soon... once I have gathered enough information to make it worthwhile. I will let you
know when. I will be able to talk everyone through the details of the trip and answer questions about the year. At this
meeting we will also be delegating some of the fundraising tasks and planning some new ones.
