Economics 12
Course Outline 2009-2010
Teacher: Ms. Cho
Course Description
Welcome to Economics 12! This course will introduce you to the exciting world of
economics! Through the study of various economic concepts you will be able to better
understand the important role economics plays in the world around us. Consumer choice,
individual firm behaviour, different market structures and the impact of government regulation
on individual markets will be examined. At the end of the course, you will also be able to
explain the overall economic effect of government policies and the importance of international
trade and economic growth. For those of you writing the AP Macroeconomics examine, time
will also be spent preparing for the Advanced Placement examination, which will take place
on Thursday, May 13th.
Economics 12 vs. AP Macroeconomics
Economics 12 will provide students with an overview of the topics covered in a first-
year university course. AP Macroeconomics is an intense first-year university level course,
which requires students to invest considerable time and effort into homework, reviewing
concepts on an on-going basis and studying for quizzes and test.
Students who are planning on writing the AP Macroeconomics exam will be given extra
homework, review tests/quizzes and a final Macroeconomics exam in May. AP students will
also be assigned a textbook to take home to study from. Although most students who are
registered in AP Macroeconomics usually write the AP exam, writing the AP exam is optional
and will in no way affect the student’s school mark. Some universities allow students to use
an AP course such as AP Macroeconomics in the calculation of their admission grade point
average.
Based on this information, students will need to decide at the beginning of the school
year whether they plan to take the AP Macroeconomics exam.
