I would like to thank those of you who kindly allowed me to use their case notes as part of this process and I would particularly like to thank those brave souls who agreed to be observed during clinic by my assessor who sat in the corner trying not to be noticed. I am not sure who was the most nervous!! Being registered by the Society of Homeopaths (which is the largest professional organisation representing Homeopaths) means that I am guided in my professional practice by the Society Code of Ethics and practice, The National Occupational Standards for Homeopathy and the Society’s Core criteria. As before, I am also fully insured. Making Babies Whether you are having difficulties conceiving or just wish to ensure you are in the best of health before beginning to try to conceive Homeopathy has a lot to offer you. The health of the parents before conception and the physical and emotional health of the mother during pregnancy can have a significant effect on the future health of the child and therefore good nutrition and Complementary Therapies have much to offer to prepare for their future. Infertility is defined as when a couple have been unable to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sex but in actual fact in many cases this may be simple due to a lack of understanding of the menstrual cycle which can vary enormously between women. For more information contact your local Homeopath for advice and./or treatment. Menstrual Mayhem Menstruation is a natural part of a woman’s life and each person has a completely different experience, which also changes throughout her life affecting her or being affected by her life. When difficulties occur the medical approach is often patches, pills and surgery that can suppress or prevent a natural cycle from occurring. Homeopathy is a gentle, safe and effective way of working with a woman’s cycle to create a positive state from puberty to menopause and beyond. An innovative NHS well woman clinic in Sheffield has recently produced results of a study of 54 patients who were assessed by their GP as having at least three menopausal symptoms. The results are that 65% of those who opted for Homeopathy experienced an overall substantial reduction in symptoms. A talk on “Homeopathy for the menopause” Worried about using HRT? Menopausal? Pre-menopausal? Hot flushes?/Mood swings? Come and find out more Weds 17th March 7.00-8.30pm Princess Royal Hospital Minimum Donations £5 Education Dept Prince of Wales presents the FIH awards for Good practise in Integrated Health Care Awards – Dec 2003 The Prince of Wales is the President of the Foundation of Integrated Health (FIH) and recently presented awards for good practice in Integrated Health where there is evidence of good working partnerships between Complementary and Orthodox treatments. In his speech he spoke of the effect of modern life on our health, of the increase in “allergies” and questioned where we have gone wrong and the need to change our whole approach to health, diet and exercise and to embrace the “whole person approach” to enable people to take more personal management of their own health. He paid tribute to the Homeopathic treatment of a young boy with eczema whom he himself had recommended for this treatment. NOW is the time to treat Hayfever Last summer a report from the Royal College of Physicians indicated that the UK had the highest prevalence of allergy in the world -18 million people in this country have an allergy. Hay fever is just one of them but there is also an increase in allergies to nuts, vegetables, fruit and latex. Hay fever is classed as a chronic problem by Homeopaths, which means that it is a long term disorder, with regular flare-ups. Because of this, the underlying disorder should be treated by a Homeopathic practitioner to achieve the most positive outcome. Don’t wait for your hay fever to start before you consult a Homeopath, as it is best to treat it in this way before the hay fever season begins. However, the flareups of hay fever can also be treated as they occur with short term relief without remedies and so self treatment is possible often providing an alternative to antihistamines and without their unwelcome side effects. For those wishing to try self prescribing for short term relief I have a short leaflet with suggested treatments available by email or by post. For long term relief constitutional prescribing by a Homeopath can be offered and for maximum effect treatment may need to extend to two seasons. Improving your run Whether you are an experienced runner or new to running (like me!) you will understand how easy it is to sustain injuries. Good warm ups, the right shoes, plenty of hydration, stretching and massage are all important in keeping running successfully and maintain that all important good health. You may not know but help is also at hand with Homeopathy and it could be really useful to understand how to self prescribe for first aid and injuries. There are many remedies to use for different injuries for different people as we all respond to injuries in different ways but a sure remedy for everyone is Arnica, which is used for shock, bruising and trauma. Low doses such as 6c, 12c or 30c are available from pharmacists but higher doses can be prescribed by a Homeopath. Any serious runner knows that getting to the peak of physical fitness is only part of the winning formula. The difference between winning a race, achieving your personal best and underachieving is the person’s mental clarity and emotional resilience. What is so extraordinary about Homeopathic remedies is that they are selected on a person’s unique mental and emotional constitution. A professional Homeopath can help any athlete or runner’s performance by finding the right remedy or remedies that will act specifically with that individual’s mind, body and spirit to help him or her reach an optimum performance.
