					What Happens When a
   Student Is LF?
Students in grades K-2 are officially classified
as LF if he or she demonstrates proficiency on
the CELLA and a score of 33% or above on the
LAB in listening and speaking. The passing
scores for CELLA are listed below:

          K-2=>2050
          3-5=>2150
          6-8=>2200
          9-12=>2250

Students in grades 3rd -12th are officially
classified as LF if he or she demonstrates
proficiency on the CELLA and a Level 3 on the
Reading FCAT.
LY/ESE STUDENTS
An LY/ESE student whose IEP
indicates that the CELLA is not a fair
instrument to measure his/her English
proficiency can exit through an ELL
Committee if a language barrier does
not exist.
The exit data must be entered on
Mainframe screen #19.
A Parent notification of exit is sent
home and a copy is placed in the Blue
Insert.
MONITORING PROCESS
The ESOL Contact monitors LF
students for 2 years after exit by
reviewing the student’s report card.

If the student has a D, F (N, U in
elementary level) in any academic
subject, a mandatory ELL Committee
must be called to discuss the
possibility of re-entry into the ESOL
program if a language barrier exists.
In cases where a language barrier is
determined not to be the cause of low
grades, the ELL Committee will
recommend alternatives appropriate to the
student’s circumstances.

A copy of the ELL Parent notification of the
meeting and minutes are filed in Blue Insert
and placed after current year’s profile. The
originals are sent home to the parents.
WHAT ELSE IS NEEDED???
A copy of the report card is dated and initialed by
the ESOL Contact.

It is filed in the Blue Insert after the current year’s
profile. Monitoring date is entered on Mainframe
screen #19. For LF monitoring dates, please refer
to the LF monitoring information on the ESOL
Document bank.

An LF profile is printed for monitored year.

Once the student has been monitored for two
years, he or she becomes LZ.

A copy of the LZ profile must be placed in Blue
Insert and changes should be made on the
mainframe.
        From LY to LF

You have now learned what happens
when a student’s ESOL status
changes from
 LY (ELL student receiving ESOL
strategies) to
LF (former ELL student, exited within
two years).
