In the fall issue of Happenings we revealed this year’s theme: James
Bond. Get ready to ante up because we are thrilled to announce that this
year’s ball will feature a touch of Casino Royale. Yes, in the true high-

table games where guests can double down and double their fun!
Ball tickets will come with a bit of “Bond Cash,” which will be exchanged
for chips at the casino tables and the money wheel. Guests may receive
additional Bond Cash by making a donation during the event to become
                              a “High Roller.”
In addition, guests can play the Royale Raffle and will hanve an opportu-
nity to bid in the live and silent auctions. There will be fantastic items to
                              win during the event!

dancing. Available for purchase, table reservations will include entrance

                                Junior League of Boston Sustainers
Junior League of Boston Sustainers are 464 women strong: women who are realtors, researchers, college admission officers, sales managers,
broadcasting CEOs, writers, gardeners, professors, business owners, community leaders, volunteers, education specialists, antique dealers,
museum leaders, psychiatrists and more. Sustainers make up more than 45% of the entire JL Boston membership and contribute 30% of League’s
dues revenue.

This year, Sustainers are increasingly focusing their efforts on meaningful volunteer and educational activities in addition to their slate of strong
social events. The nearly 20 Sustainer Council members are responsible for planning more than 30 events from September 2011 through June 2012.
Community volunteer activities include serving food to those in need, painting a mural for a children’s hospital and packaging toiletries for needy
women as part of Project Valentine. To promote lifelong learning, Sustainers will gain knowledge from activities such as museum visits including the
DeCordova, Peabody Essex and MFA, a walking tour of New Bedford’s art galleries, an educational stroll through Beacon Hill gardens and a behind-
the-scenes look at the Boston Public Library. During the year, Sustainers will enjoy many social events including the Holiday Tea at the Country Club,
the Young Sustainers’ Laura Mercier Makeover at Neiman Marcus, cross-country ski adventure in New Hampshire, Arts in Bloom at the MFA, Myopia
Polo Club match, an antique show and many other stimulating events.

Sustainers participate in special clubs and committees, such as the Garden Club of the Junior League of Boston, two book clubs (Ritzy Readers and
the other yet named) and Newbies (for Sustainer transfers who have come from other Junior Leagues across the country). The Garden Club has
held several events this year and is looking for new members.

Many of the Sustainers’ activities are inclusive and open to Actives and Provisionals. Be sure to read the weekly e-newsletter that comes out each
Friday from the Junior League of Boston. In that you’ll see the Sustainer events along with the many full League events that you are encouraged to
attend — especially the annual Ball, Service and the City, which will be held February 11 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza.

On the Junior League website, there is a Sustainer section that we are developing more fully. It lists upcoming activities and shows pictures and
write-ups from past events.

To return to our roots of having more area activities, Sustainer Director Emerita Patti Manhard, oversees all area leaders and encourages area events
so that we can enjoy events closer to home with long-time and new friends from our region.

We look forward to having you join us for Sustainer activities! If you have questions, comments or ideas about the Sustainers, please be in touch with
Cynthia Fenneman, the Director of Sustainer Membership, at Cynthia_Fenneman@APTonline.org.
