Radiology Training
Overview:
Throughout the this short and comprehensive course, participants are supposed to achieve the following objectives concerning the radiology practice
Be aware of the current and advanced diagnostic imaging modalities and their application for diagnosis and treatment Be able to run a radio- diagnostic unit providing the basic and common diagnostic procedures Be able to write a comprehensive report on a radiological study with clinico- radiological interpretation and to deduce the correct diagnosis or the possible differential diagnoses Be able to communicate and keep pace with radiologists and clinicians in his/ her working place as well as in other hospitals. Be prepared to acquire and apply the new developments in Radiology whenever available Having a sufficient preliminary knowledge about the use of computers and computer sciences in radiological diagnosis and management Upon completion of this course, radiologists will have the appropriate diagnostic skills for radiological interpretation, as well as technical and interventional skills . Common clinical scenarios and safe radiological management will be emphasized for women’s imaging, musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular diseases, urological diseases, neurological disorders, chest diseases, paediatric diseases and abdomino-pelvic diseases. This course is part of continuing professional development for radiology specialists and is considered and the basis for ongoing series of radiology courses. This course will be accredited from the Ministry of Health and Population as well as from the Egyptian Board of Radiology, as equivalent to 360 CME credit hours

Core Secure knowledge of the relevant aspects of current legislation regarding the administration of radiopharmaceuticals Knowledge of the technical aspects of radionuclide radiology relevant to optimising image quality Knowledge the radiopharmaceuticals currently available for the purposes of imaging organs and locating inflammatory collections, tumors and sites of haemorrhage Knowledge of the relevant patient preparation, precautions (including drug effects), and complications of the more commonly performed radionuclide investigations Knowledge and understanding of the principles and indications of the more commonly performed radionuclide investigations and how these relate to other imaging techniques, in particular knowledge of the radionuclide investigations in the following topic areas: - Cardiology
- Endocrinology - Gastroenterology and hepato- biliary disease - Haematology - Infection - Lung disease - Nephro- urology - Nervous system - Oncology - Paediatrics - Skeletal disorders Understanding the significance of normal and abnormal results Knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of radionuclide investigations compared to other imaging modalities Experience in supervision and reporting of radionuclide investigations Optional Familiarity with the practical application of positron emission tomography

- Small parts (scrotum, thyroid, neck structures) - Upper abdomen (including lower chest) Experience of performing Doppler US imaging (e.g., leg veins, portal vein, carotid artery) Performing US of the breast Experience in US of the musculoskeletal system Optional Obstetric US Performing transcranial paediatric US Performing US – guided interventional procedures (e.g., biopsy and drainage)
Interventional radiology

Core Familiarity with the equipment and echniques used in vascular, biliary, and renal interventional techniques Familiarity with the indications, contraindications, pre- procedure preparation including informed consent, patient monitoring during the procedure and post- procedure patient care Familiarity with procedures and post- procedure complications and their management US- guided interventional procedures (e.g., biopsy and drainage) CT guided interventional procedures (e.g., biopsy and drainage)
Optional Observation of the spectrum of interventional procedures currently performed in the following systems: - Vascular system (including neurovascular) - Urinary system - Biliary system - GI system - Musculoskeletal system Experience of MRI – guided interventional procedures
