With a growing labour market from central Europe, the ability to speak a foreign language is becoming more important. Learning a language can be one of the most exciting things you will ever do, whether you want to start a new one from scratch, brush-up a language you already know or prepare for travel and business abroad. Our experienced tutors, many of whom are native speakers, are all trained to encourage you to develop your language skills at a pace suitable for your ability. In the classroom you will learn to speak, listen, read and write your chosen language. The most popular languages we offer are Spanish, French, Italian and German. Gloucestershire College offers over 15 different languages from Arabic to Turkish and, with the developing European markets, Bulgarian and Polish. Classes can be arranged to be delivered in company at times to meet your busy schedule, either in groups or on a one-to-one basis. Gloucestershire College has a number of contracts to deliver languages at several local key employers’ premises who are training their staff in language skills to support their overseas business. If English is not your first language you may wish to consider one of our ‘English as a Foreign Language’ courses. We also offer ‘Deaf Awareness’ classes, based on the British Sign Language programme. Work-related, competence-based qualifications NVQs have become an increasingly popular qualification which candidates earn through assessment in the workplace. They are competence-based awards, made up of a number of units. They reflect the skills and knowledge needed to do the job effectively and show that a candidate is competent in the area of work represented by the NVQ. NVQs are awarded following training and assessment, usually in the work place, and assessment is normally through on-the-job observation and questioning. Candidates produce evidence to prove they have the competence to meet NVQ standards. Gloucestershire College has recently been approved as an official centre for Adobe training. Engineering Engineering is an important industry in Gloucestershire. Key sectors include aerospace, automotive and defence. Therefore, high-level engineering skills and qualifications continue to be in demand across the county as companies large and small compete for well-trained engineers. Gloucestershire College is one of the largest providers of engineering training in the South West, with well-equipped workshops including state-of-the-art computer-aided design facilities with CNC links and robotics equipment. Highly trained teaching staff have extensive and current industrial experience. A wide range of technical subjects is offered in the School of Engineering, many of which are not available elsewhere in the region. We provide vocational programmes and NVQs designed to meet the needs of local industry through specialist training and customised facilities.
