        Society
Dear Sponsors,

The Collingwood Agricultural Society is a
volunteer organization that appreciates its
sponsors and supporters that enable us to
produce the Great Northern Exhibition.
Sponsorship helps produce all aspects of
the fair, from providing entertainment to
prize money for exhibitors. The sponsors
help bring smiles to all of the exhibitors
and people in attendance, young and old.

The GNE showcases most aspects of
agriculture. For many children this is their
only opportunity to see and learn about
farms and farm animals. With your
support we make this possible.

This year will be the 157th Great Northern
Exhibition. Our theme for 2012 is “From
Farm Gate to Dinner Plate”. Without your
endless support we would not be where
we are today.

Please take this opportunity to read this
booklet and determine the area you would
like to support for the 2012 GNE.

We at the GNE thank you for your support
over the years and look forward to a
continuing relationship with you and plan
to see you at the fair.

Eldie Benson, President
Collingwood Agricultural Society
INTRODUCTION
The overall purpose of the Collingwood Agricultural Society is to
serve and participate in the interests and needs of the community
and to promote agriculture. Accordingly, the Board of Directors of
the Collingwood Agricultural Society is seeking support from the
members of the community.
Our main showcase is our annual Fall Fair. Fairs are and have been
a part of rural Canada for many years. This meeting place provided
for the community invites people to visit each other and to rediscover
their heritage and community of yesterday and today.
The goal of the Collingwood Agricultural Society is to present ag-
riculture in a manner that is both educational and entertaining to
all ages of fair-goers. The competitive element embraced for many
years in exhibiting is retained. This makes the fair meaningful to
everyone and ensures that top quality products and livestock are
showcased. The country fair continues to improve the quality
of life in Ontario, and is an aspect of our community as important as
any other function.

HOW IS THE G.N.E. FINANCED?
Through the support of community-minded individuals, Service
Clubs, small and large businesses, professional practices,
corporations, GNE volunteer-operated events.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Become a sponsor of a particular event or the Fair in general. As a
designated sponsor, your support is recognized throughout the Fair!
For example, events that have sponsors are Education Day, the
Ambassador program, the Photography Show, the Heavy Horse
Pull. The satisfaction of participation in the growth and
development of your community will offer untold rewards for you.
RECOGNIT ION Sponsors of
the G.N.E. receive excellent on-
site recognition of their participation
in the Fair. Located in the highest
traffic area of the Fairgrounds, a
high profile parkette has been
constructed. Featuring
landscaping, and professionally
designed display boards our
sponsors’ names are proudly
displayed. This area also provides
a focal point for ceremonies,
announcements and photo
opportunities. In addition, the
Collingwood Agricultural Society is a
registered charitable organization
and issues tax receipts to
individuals for all donations.
Finally, sponsors receive
recognition in the Fair Prize Book,
public recognition during the Fair, and
permanent “billboard style”
advertising on the Fairgrounds
throughout the year* (*please see
sponsorship packages).

high-profile, multifaceted activities at the Great Northern Exhibition.
For the most part, these activities will be major, theme-oriented,
education projects designed to attract the interest of a wide cross-
section of the general public. Example: Education Day, Fair
Ambassador Program, A Themed Building.

Being associated with a high-profile activity ensures a high level of public
recognition for the “Country Squire” sponsor. The G.N.E. is always
open to suggestions for co-operative sponsorship ventures which
might be mutually beneficial and improve the fair.

       COLLING WOOD AGRICULTURAL
             SOCIETY HISTORY

The Collingwood Agricultural Society hosted its first Great Northern
Exhibition in September 1855. That year the Great Northern Exhibition was
held on a pasture in Bowmore, now Duntroon. The Great Northern Exhibition
soon became a highlight of the fall season. In 1858, in co-operation with the
town of Collingwood, the Agricultural Society was able to secure land and
building within the town and The Great Northern Exhibition moved to town. In
1982 the Collingwood Agricultural Society purchased 47 acres on Fairgrounds
Road. In 2005 the Collingwood Agricultural Society hosted its 157 th Great
Northern Exhibition. To commemorate the past 150 years the Collingwood
Agricultural Society had a dry stone cairn with provision in the top to house a
time capsule with memorabilia of the past fairs and of the 2005 fair. The time
capsule is to be opened in 2055 at the Great Northern Exhibition.
Today the Collingwood Agricultural Society not only has one of the largest and
best fall fairs in Ontario, but is providing the local communities with a much
needed event centre.
