                                     Gene Borek Squire Cup Teams Square Off at Fishers Island
                  Our congratulations to the assistant professionals who have been selected for the 2012 Gene Borek Squire
                  Cup team. They will compete against a team of their head professional counterparts at Fishers Island on Fri.,
                  Oct. 5th. These matches honor the memory of Gene Borek and his legacy as a leader, player and the ultimate

                                Garden City Golf Club Raises Nearly $25,000.00 for Junior Golf
                Bob Rittberger, Pat McCarthy, Jessie Fitzgerald and former assistant Alex Smith of Garden City Golf Club staged
                a memorable team event on Friday, Aug. 31st that raised nearly $25,000.00 for Met PGA Junior Golf. Birdies
                were flying and the result was a wonderful reward for the kids in our programs including those in First Tee.
                Garden City Golf Club – members and staff have done more than their fair share in helping us move towards
                that $100,000.00 contribution goal set for 2012.

                          Four Team Championships Highlight Final Month of the Season
The close of our tournament season is always marked by the team championships on the October schedule. In addition to the
Met PGA Team Championship on Oct. 1st and 2nd, the schedule also includes our two Lincoln Met PGA Pro-Lady Champion-
ships at South Fork CC on Thursday, Oct. 4th and at Rolling Hills on Thursday, Oct. 11th. Both of these morning shotgun events
are modified Pinehurst events that pair our professionals with their women’s champion or top lady amateur from the club.

The men’s club champions or top male amateurs will have their chance with their facility’s professional at Sunningdale on Oct.
10th where the Whitey Voight Met PGA Pro-Am Championship will be conducted or at Glen Head Country Club on Wednes-
day, Oct. 24th for the Jack Mallon Pro-Am Championship. Registration for any of these events is online.

                  Section Championship at CC of Fairfield Showcased on Met PGA Notebook
We enjoyed a great Lincoln Met PGA Championship at Country Club of Fairfield and that event will be part of our 2nd edition
of The Met PGA Notebook on SNY later this month. GlenArbor’s Brian Crowell again serves as host and moderator while our
panel of Met PGA professionals will include national award winners Carl Alexander of Purchase, John Kennedy of Westchester
and Michael Breed of Sunningdale along with Rob Labritz of GlenArbor. The program will air on Saturday, Oct. 13th on SNY at
7:00 am and then will be rebroadcast on Sunday, Oct. 14th at noon; Saturday, Oct. 20th at 7:30 am; Sunday Oct. 21st at 11:00
am. Please tune in to SNY in your golf shops and at your facilities and set your DVR for these airdates and times.

                             Treiber Memorial Wraps up Player of the Year Race -
                  Balin Clinches Title but 2013 Match Play Exemptions Are Still Up for Grabs
Wheatley Hills Golf Club plays host to our annual conclusion to the Met PGA Player of the Year race and while the drama is
gone and Danny Balin has clinched the overall title, there will still be plenty of competition for the Treiber trophies and the title
in this stableford event. Professionals are also reminded that the point standings are used for the Match Play exemptions for
2013. Qualifying for players who are not exempt for this Tournament of Champions will be on Tuesday, Oct. 16th and the
championship runs on the 17th – 19th with a cut after each round.

                   Southworth PGA Senior Professional Championship in Leesburg, Virginia
We will have a very strong contingent of players traveling to Virginia, Oct. 11th-14th for the Southworth PGA Senior Profes-
sional Championship. In addition to our Met PGA Senior Champion Bruce Zabriski of Westchester, the field will also include
exempt players Darrell Kestner and Tom Joyce. Also qualifying were Rick Hartmann, Atlantic, Charlie Bolling, Tom Sutter,
Dunwoodie, Mark Mielke, Mill River, David Young, Sleepy Hollow, Bobby Heins, Old Oaks, Mike Caporale, North Hills and

                                          Atlantic City Pro-Am Field is Filled
Spots are only available now for the waiting list (contact Jeff Voorheis is interested) for our Pro-Am event on Oct. 21st-23rd in
Atlantic City. Competition on the course will take place at Atlantic City Country Club and Hidden Creek while the gaming
competition will be at the host hotel, The Borgata. This will also be the second stage of our Pro-Am Grand Slam (along with
Fairfield and Kiawah) sponsored by Bermuda Tourism.

                             Assistants Association Prepares for Officers Elections at
                             Fall Meeting on Oct. 29th at Westchester Country Club
The Assistants Association puts a wrap on their season with the closing Assistant-Assistant tournament and their Fall Meeting
at Westchester Country Club on Monday, Oct. 29th. The Fall Meeting includes an election of the Assistants Association offic-
ers and the presentation of the Gil McNally (most improved player) Award and Stroke Average Award. Please check the As-
sistants Association page for more details on the election and the team event.

                    2012 PGA Championship Venue Featured at Met PGA Kiawah Pro-Am
We are pleased that 21 teams will enjoy Kiawah’s Ocean Course along with private clubs Cassique and The River Course for
our Nov. 4-7 Met PGA Pro-Am at Kiawah. Please note that the dates were incorrectly listed in the September Newsletter.

                                               Jack Breno Attains Half-Century Status

               Congratulations to Ellenville’s Jack Breno who will have passed the 50 year milestone of PGA Membership in
               October. Jack joins an elite group of PGA Professionals who have served the game and the Association for 50
               years. We also extend our congratulations to Bill Smittle of Scarsdale Golf Club who was elected to the Quar-
               ter Century Club this September, recognizing his 25 years of PGA Membership.

                Sue Ginter and Bev Davis Win LPGA Northeast Section Championship Titles
Congratulations to Rolling Hills assistant Sue Ginter who recently won the LPGA Northeast Section Championship at Rolling
Hills CC in McMurray, PA with a 36 hole score of 151. Greenwich CC assistant, Bev Davis won the Senior Division with a
153 total. Marge Jones finished 3rd in the Senior Division for our other lone check-winner in the field.

                                                Educational Opportunities
While we prepare for the Fall Forum, the Roundtables and of course our Winter Education Series, there are also some unique
offerings within the Section.

John Kennedy is offering a complimentary Golf Operation evaluation to two professionals this fall. This evaluation can in-
clude any or all areas of your operation including a contract review. This year it will be limited to Fairfield and Westchester

US Kids is offering a Certified Instructor Seminar on Wednesday, Oct. 24th at Westchester Country Club from 8:30 am to 4:30
pm. Participating in the seminar offers a unique addition to a resume as well as enhancing the instructor’s knowledge of all
aspects of youth golf that can be utilized to enhance his/her current programs or provide the basis for establishing new offer-
ings. Areas of focus include equipment, course yardages and enhancing current junior programs. US Kids also is accepting

Congratulations to Round Hill’s Debbie Dungee and Mt. Kisco’s Dennis Dungee on the birth of their daughter, Bennett Lake
Dungee on Sept. 4th at 8 pounds 1 ounce. There will be plenty of great golf instruction to go around for young Bennett Dungee
as she grows older.

We are very sorry to report the sudden passing of Joe Christianson’s Dad, Lyle on Sept. 14th. He suffered a fatal heart attack
while working the harvest of their farm near Fargo North Dakota.

Waccabuc has identified their candidates for interviews and they are beginning the process this week. Apawamis is also starting
to schedule interviews for the next two weeks as they move through the interview process.
Michael Breed, Head Golf Professional at Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, NY has resigned his position as of the end of
this season. He will be completing his 12th season at Sunningdale where he has enhanced the enjoyment of the game for the
entire golfing membership. Michael will be leaving to further his passion for teaching and to be able to pursue his other golf relat-
ed interests. The Club is celebrating its centennial in 2013 and has always had a history of prominent Golf Professionals includ-
ing Whitey Voight, Jim McLean, Gene Borek and Bill Greenleaf. Sunningdale’s search committee will be interviewing in Novem-
ber and hopes to have a final selection during December. The Golf Search Committee will be accepting resumes and has request-
ed that all cover letters and resumes be submitted electronically no later than October 31st at: The
Met PGA has a job description available.

We were advised three weeks ago that Ron McDougal will not be returning to Old Westbury Golf & Country Club next year.
Pine Hollow has now informed us that Mike Meehan has decided to leave the club at the end of this season to accept the Direc-
tor of Golf position at Old Westbury Golf & Country Club. Pine Hollow is therefore in the process of establishing their Search
Committee and putting together a job profile/description. It is likely that our Committee will meet with them within the next
week or 10 days. In the meantime they are accepting applications and resumes with a deadline of Nov. 3rd addressed to:
