information; and individual team/coaches meetings

coaches on June 9, 2010 details, (e.g., dates, times) at “Meet Your Coaches Night.” Summer camp
includes 15 hours of conditioning/instruction. Summer Camp Wear mandatory
– purchased at Varsity Shop in Downtown Birmingham

Monday, August 2, 2010 Regular Season Football Practice– Groves H.S. Players
5:50 p.m. Sharp must be on field & ready to practice 10 minutes early. Initial Practice schedule:
6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Monday - Friday; after first game no Monday practices
with practices being Tuesday – Thursday 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. and Friday 5:15 p.m.
– 6:45 p.m.; once Birmingham Schools begin classes practice schedule is
Tuesday – Thursday 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Friday 5:15 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.
Practice times are adjusted, as needed, after daylight savings time.
Equipment worn first 3 days of practice is limited to: Helmet with mouth-guard,
Summer Camp Wear (purchased from Varsity Shop in Downtown Birmingham),
practice jersey, athletic supporter/cup, football shoes, and filled water bottle with
name. No person-to-person contact drills first 3 days of practice. Emphasis is
on skills and conditioning. Do not bring shoulder pads, practice pants, or game
pants on first three days of practice. Beginning Thursday, August 5, full contact
drills will begin - - pads, equipment and practice jersey will be required.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 Start of Weekly “Patriots Unity Night” All teams will warm-
down together, coaches will recognize individual efforts, and special
8:00 p.m. speaker will talk about life skills that are important on and off the field.
Parents are welcome.

rejuvenate players after games during the season

Sunday, November 14, Equipment Hand In – Secured Storage Systems All
2010 equipment must be returned in undamaged, clean and dry condition. No
Freshman 1 – 2 p.m. banquet tickets will be distributed to participants who have not turned in their
J.V. 2 – 3 p.m. equipment, or paid for lost or damaged equipment.

PATRIOTS MANADATORY VOLUNTEERS
The Patriots organization runs on volunteerism. All parents are required to
provide a minimum of six hours of volunteer time. Parent volunteerism leads
to new friendships and sends a positive message to the players and participants.
The following list provides a general description of the volunteer positions
available. Your ideas are invited. Parents who have not completed a volunteer
form at the time of registration must do so before the start of the season, Monday
August 2, 2010. Please feel free to contact Denise Bowman for details: 248-670-
1241 or rbbflyby@sbcglobal.net. Failure to provide a volunteer form could affect
your players’ game time.
Team Parent Assists the head coach, including the delivery
of water to practices/games, keeping team
parents advised of events, assisting with pre-
game weigh-in, and assisting head coach with
team issues on a team-by-team basis. Each
team must have one team parent.
Family Picnic and Pep Rally Organize food, setup and cleanup. Patriots
provide main course with each family bringing
Committee dish to pass. Assemble small team volunteers
to grill/serve main course, organize food on
tables, and to ensure clean up of picnic area.
Community Service Coordinates Patriots Community Service
project for Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac;
Coordinator 2009 consisted of food and money drive in
coordination with Recognition and Awards
Banquet.
50/50 Sales During home games, (2) volunteers needed to
walk through the stands on both sides of the
field to sell raffle tickets during the first half of
the game. At half time, 50% of proceeds
delivered to Patriots Treasurer or Board
Member and 50% to announcer’s booth
together with tickets to draw winning number.
During home games only, volunteers needed to
assist with sale of food/beverages. Proceeds
fund Patriots program. Volunteers help with
set-up, keeping food/drinks ready for sale,
handling cash sales, grill hot dogs/hamburgers,
Concession Sales and cleanup. It is recommended to
volunteer for the game prior to, or after your
child’s team plays to enable you to see your
child’s game.
Awards Banquet Committee Volunteers needed to assist in the organizing,
preparing, setting-up/decorating, and tearing
down season end banquet.
Awards Banquet Ticket Sales Volunteers needed to coordinate with one point
person per team to sell banquet tickets starting
prior to the last regular season game.
Volunteers responsible for collecting money
and issuing tickets at time of equipment turn in
(tickets would need to be put in envelopes with
player’s names and team names on them).
“Chain Gang” During game time, two home team volunteers
are needed to work alongside volunteer from
opposing team to hold/move the down marker
poles as instructed by the referees. For away
games, one volunteer will be needed to move
the down marker.
Picture Day Coordinator Volunteers needed to organize/assist with
individual/team pictures. Assist photographer
on “Picture Day” and coordinate distributing
pictures when delivered from the photographer.
Announcer During home games, volunteers needed to
provide commentary to inform spectators of the
play by play action and other activities within
the stadium – on and off the field.
Apparel Coordinator Volunteers needed to coordinate apparel
design, sales and delivery. Need to pick up
finished goods from Varsity Shop to deliver to
the appropriate parents/families. Responsible
FILLED for transporting samples to and from the
practice or game field for display and sales.
Apparel During home games, volunteers needed to set
up apparel table with samples of t-shirts,
sweatshirts, hats, etc. and to assist fans with
their purchase/order form completion
Videotape Volunteers needed to videotape home and
away Patriots games for the coaches to use as
post game instruction and preparation for next
game. Patriots supply video camera for use.
Spotters During each game, volunteers needed to work
with a volunteer from opposing team using a
suitable check sheet supplied by the head
coach to ensure each player has played at
least minimum number of plays and to advise
the head coach when a player needs more
plays to meet his minimum before the end of
each half. One volunteer monitors our team
and one observes opposing team spotter.
Communications Director Volunteers needed to coordinate e-mails,
phone calls, and publicity while working with
the President to promote consistent messages.
Volunteer Coordinator Volunteer coordinator needed to collect contact
information and tasks for volunteers in spread
sheet format. Coordinates and sends e-mail
confirmation/reminder 1 week before game to
each person volunteering for the coming game.
National Anthem Singer During home games, volunteers need to sing
National Anthem. Report to announcer’s booth
15 minutes prior to scheduled game time.
Game Clock During home games, volunteers needed to run
the game clock. Report to the announcer’s
booth 15 minutes prior to game time to operate
the game clock. Volunteer may wish to have
“cheat sheet” of referee hand signals and basic
football rules start/stop the clock as necessary.
Pre-Game Set Up Volunteers needed to report 1 ½ hours prior to
game time to assist with field set-up including
opening concessions stand, setting up Patriots
flags/banners, down markers, yard markers.
Post Game Clean Up After home games, volunteers assist with field
and concessions closing including packing left
over stock from concessions, cleaning stands,
and packing flags and down/yard markers.
Team Photographer Volunteers needed for each team to take action
photographs of practices/games and make
them available to Web Site Coordinator for
posting to the website or to facilitate creation of
Highlight CD producer for the end of the year.
Patriots Highlight CD Volunteer needed to coordinate receiving and
assembling pictures from team photographers
to create end of year Highlight CD.
Web Site Coordinator Volunteers needed to manage Patriots
Website, keeping all informed of approaching
events, and ensuring postings are appropriate
by coordinating approval from the President.
NOTES
MANDATORY FORMS
On or before equipment handout on July 18, 2010 you must
have provided the following items:
Physical form signed by doctor dated April 15, 2010 or later
(no child will be permitted to participate
in Summer Camp or otherwise without a
signed physical form).
Copy of Birth Certificate (if not supplied in prior year)
Completed & signed registration
Fundraiser check for $100/player payable to “BUYFO”
Emergency contact information form

be winners on and off the field. In the process, we look forward to
revisiting our old friends and making many new friends as well.
