Page Two ST. JOAN OF ARC CHURCH
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
There is no way we could buy half of what we purchase unless we were convinced that we need
these things to make us happy or successful. If we have a bigger kitchen we will be happy. If we have a
new car we will be happy. If we have lots of money in the bank we will be happy. If only we had more,
we will be happy. In truth, we need very little to live a good life.
In our first reading from Amos 7:12-15, we hear that the prophet suffered the same fate of all
prophets. He was not welcome because he challenged the status quo. He was warned to take his act elsewhere. But
Amos knew that he needed to obey God rather than men.
In our Gospel from Mark 6:7-13, we hear that Jesus sent out his disciples and urged them to travel light. Pack
no bags, carry no food, and take along no money. All they really needed was the truth and power of God. If they took
these things with them, the other lesser needs would take care of themselves.
We want so many things, but what we want and what we need are two different things. We pile up possessions
far beyond what we need to survive and to thrive. We need to ask the Lord to give us a new sense of our real needs and
help us meet those needs in honest and prudent ways. It is then that we will find true happiness.

FOOD FOR FRIENDS SUNDAY
NEXT COLLECTION: WEEKEND OF JULY 21-22
Thanks to your generosity nearly 200 bags of groceries, as well as cash and food certificates were donated for the seven ministries
that we support. St. Joan of Arc Parishioners, thank you very much! Please remember to pick up bags the weekend of July 14-15
and return them on Saturday or Sunday, July 21-22nd. If no one is distributing bags at the Mass you attend, you’ll find them on the
counters in the vestibules. If you forget to bring your donation or cannot be at Mass on Food for Friends Sunday, you may put your
donation inside the cabinets that line either of the main entry ways. Suggestion lists for non-perishable food items are attached to
the bag, indicating special needs for the month, such as cereal, canned goods, flour, corn meal, peanut butter, oil, pasta, and soups,
along with other items suitable for school lunches. Grocery store gift cards or cash donations are always welcome.
May the Lord continually bless you for your generosity to the recipients of Food for Friends!

St. Joan of Arc
The auction event of the year is coming to San Ramon! What do Salvador Dali, Buster Posey
and Marilyn Monroe have in common? All will be up for auction at the St. Joan of Arc Food
& Wine Fest on October 6. The auction at the event will be unlike any other auctions you may
have experienced. Featured items will include exquisite, limited edition artwork (think Dali,
Picasso, Chagall and many lesser known, but equally original artists), signed sports and
entertainment collectibles (Montana, Posey, Ruth...need we say more!), fabulous designer
jewelry and ladies accessories, unique home décor, exotic getaways and much more. Come join
us for a great evening of auctions, libations, food and fun!
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL NEWS
During the month of June, St. Joan of Arc members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society helped a
total of 23 people, providing them $6565.00 in financial aid for food, gasoline, household
utilities, furniture, transportation and housing costs. We are very grateful to you for your
contributions to our ministry on the 5th Sundays of the months. Your generous donations help
make it possible for us to assist people in this difficult economy.
The 2nd collection on the 5th weekend of this month, July 28 and 29, will be taken up for the support of our
parish St. Vincent de Paul conference. There will be envelopes in the pews. We thank you in advance for
your continuing generosity on the fifth weekend in July.
St. Vincent de Paul Society also accepts the donation of vehicles (running or not), RVs, campers, and boats.
Call 1-800-937-7837 to arrange for this and advise them that you are donating for St Vincent de Paul of St.
Joan of Arc in San Ramon. They will take care of all paper work and next-day pick-up of your donation.
