Recent events have proven that the Lighted Candle Society was exactly correct in our prediction. The phenomenon of children producing child pornography and distributing it to other children has swept through junior high and high schools throughout the country. Since in most jurisdictions the production and distribution of child pornography is a felony local law enforcement officials have been faced with the dilemma of prosecuting minors on felony complaints. In a remarkable display of a total lack of understanding of the importance of the issue a Utah state legislator introduced a bill that would lessen these felony offenses to misdemeanors. Even more remarkable was the fact that the bill was endorsed by the state Association of county attorneys and by the State Sentencing Commission. The county prosecutors endorsed the bill because of budget reasons. They simply do not have the financial resources to prosecute all of the sex crimes taking place. So, the answer to the problem is to reclassify the crime as a misdemeanor so that the prosecutor can turn it over to the juvenile probation department for whatever milk toast type of chastisement they choose to give the “porn stars” in training. The enactment of the proposed legislation would simply open the door for the exploitation of juveniles by other juveniles. Those who would be the most eager to see this legislation pass are the pedophiles who trade in child pornography. Extensive research has proven that adult pornography addicts escalate from adult pornography to child pornography. When children eagerly or reluctantly use the Internet to send sexually explicit photos of themselves to friends and others most of those images ultimately come into the hands of the adult pedophiles. In our book published in 1999, A War We Must Win, we predicted the campaign by the pornography industry to make pornography acceptable and available to women and minors. That prediction has also been fulfilled. We have seen in the nine years since the book was published a dramatic increase in the number of women who are openly purchasing pornographic DVD’s and so called “sex toys.” The pornography industry’s targeting of teenagers is now well financed and extremely successful. The evidence of their success can be seen in the tragic statistics of sexually transmitted diseases among teenagers in the United States. In the United Kingdom, where this strategy to make pornography available to underage youth began a decade before it was undertaken in the United States, the fruits of the success of that campaign are well documented. Several recent studies released in the UK assert that twenty-seven percent of the underage boys in the UK access pornography on the Internet on a weekly basis. Another poll of some two thousand boys and girls found that thirty percent ( nearly one out of three) of those between the ages of 14 and 17 had had adult sexual experiences. The Lighted Candle Society has spent more than a year and a great deal of money in preparing a lawsuit against a company that specializes in selling pornography to teenagers. We now have the evidence, including videotapes made with surveillance cameras, of how this company induces young people into an addiction to pornography. We have the plaintiffs and we have the legal strategy prepared. What we now need are the financial resources to proceed with the litigation. For the past two years a team of volunteer attorneys have carefully monitored the evidence and developed the legal strategy to go forward with the lawsuit. Our challenge now is that we cannot expect an attorney who is volunteering his or her time to spend the greater portion of the next twelve months engaged in a courtroom battle without some financial support. Filing the lawsuit is just the beginning. The wealthy corporate defendant in this litigation will do everything possible to keep the case from going to trial. The corporate pornographer knows that once the evidence presented to the jury results in a conviction they will face similar lawsuits all over the country. Thus, they will use every conceivable delay tactic to prevent the case from actually entering the trial phase. A volunteer attorney, no matter how committed, cannot be expected to bear the burden of dealing with all of the procedural delay tactics that will be used by the defendant. THE SECRET COMBINATION OF THE SEX INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX CONTINUES TO USE MONEY AND POWER TO ENSLAVE OTHERS INTO AN ADDICTION TO PORNOGRAPHY. Several developments in the recent weeks illustrate once again how the secret combination of financial and corporate power is being mobilized to make it possible for more and more individuals to become addicted to pornography. Example number one. One of the ways in which employers have been able to exercise control over the misuse of computers in the office workplace to access pornography has been the ability to monitor what type of material is being accessed by the employee with the employer’s computers. Two makers of web browsers are now marketing a product that will make it possible to use the office place computer to access pornography without being caught. Google and Microsoft have introduced features that that help people more easily go to pornography websites without being detected by the employer or by their spouse. As one industry newsletter put it, “…people in the industry are naming the feature ‘porn mode’ as it gives users the ability to view adult sites without leaving evidence.” An article in the Monday September 8th edition of the
Edmonton Sun quite properly noted the obvious hypocrisy involved as both Google and Microsoft attempted to justify these products with the assertion that it will allow people to keep their “… surfing private while using public computers.” The reporter than wrote, “ we all know what the majority of folks are going to use this for. Might as well just call it ‘Porn Mode’ and be done with it.” Example number two. Another recent development is that a so-called major motion picture producer is now going to produce a motion picture on making a pornographic motion picture. As is often the case the vulgarity and obscenity is supposedly camouflaged in comedy. Thus, as amateur producers of pornography continue to take away market share from the major producers of pornography, now the supposedly legitimate motion picture industry has announced that they will enter that same market with an expensive production using major Hollywood stars. Example number three. A report from Tom Johansmeyer’s column at http:// www.alleyinsider.com notes that the pornography industry just had another member of the sex industrial complex obtain public financing. “Adult entertainment just got a new publicly traded player, Adult Entertainment Capital, Inc., and the flesh biz just moved a step closet to legitimacy.” Mr. Johansmerer’s article goes on to note: “For the past year and a half, we’ve seen finance creep into porn. AdultVest launched with endless fanfare now claims it has access to $11 billion in investable assets,” all to be used for the commercial production of pornography. As the Lighted Candle Society has previously reported, there are four entities which are primarily engaged in the production and distribution of pornography that are publicly traded on major stock exchanges. In addition to that, as explained
in our book, The Sex Industrial Complex, many of 4 the major producers and distributors of pornography receive financial support and the use of the influence of major corporate entities in the Untied States. Example number four. For the past decade subscriptions to daily and weekly newspapers have been dwindling. People find other more acceptable and more efficient ways to get their news. In an article dated August 29, 2008, by Laurence Cohen, contained in the eCourant. Electronic edition, Mr. Cohen notes that the supposedly appropriate and dignified daily newspapers are seriously considering using pornography to save their empires from going defunct. “The trick is to ease into the business gradually,” writes Mr. Cohen, “dabbling with porn in the print version of the newspapers to prepare the readers for what is to come…” Anyone who has traveled outside the United States, particularly in Western Europe, has seen for many years vile obscenity in the national newspapers of Europe. The same could be said in much of Asia, with the exception of China. Mr. Cohen uses the Washington Post as his first example of this endeavor in the United States. “Several years ago, the Washington Post began the grand experiment, with a front-page story about how young suburban girls were engaging in casual oral sex, as opposed to writing mushy notes to the cute boys in class…The Post was careful to write the initial story as a dull sociology text, to avoid any accusations that it had bumped an important story about hyperinflation in Nigeria off the front page in favor of girly sex to boost readership.” Mr. Cohen goes on to document his article with other current examples of metropolitan daily newspapers using supposedly newsworthy items to introduce an acceptance to pornography in your morning newspaper.
As an anti-pornography organization the Lighted Candle Society is unique. When we created this entity some eight years ago we determined not to duplicate what other “pro-family” type organizations were doing. Thus, we set our priorities to do what no one else was doing: ie: 1. To engage the pornography industry in direct confrontation with civil litigation. 2. To engage in scientific research that would provide irrefutable evidence that the consumption of pornography causes structural and functional damage to the human brain. 3. To publish information such as that contained in this newsletter which would enable people who care bout such things to know what is being done to their society by the secret combinations of the sex industrial complex. There are three reasons why no one else does what the Lighted Candle Society is doing. Our programs are HIGH COST, HIGH RISK, AND LONG TERM. High cost because we dare to confront the industry in court. High Cost because our scientific research requires the use of professionals and equipment that costs millions of dollars. High Risk because the enemy with whom we do battle is ruthless, vindictive, and incredibly powerful. Long Term because none of these endeavors can be completed without years of intense effort.

The Lighted Candle Society cannot succeed without the financial resources that must come from a broad base of consistent donors. How absurd it would appear to historians of the future to note that an organization dedicated to the preservation of the Republic and the liberties won at so great a cost in human life and sacrifice could not compete with the athletic circuses and political huckstering of the day for the financial resources necessary to maintain our national heritage.
