With all of the features that there is to consider when purchasing a vehicle, colour is
one of the most widely debated. Some people literally spend hours looking at colour
options.

Choosing the color of your car is a big decision and it definitely has an impact on the
overall look of your vehicle. This is why the colour you choose is often based on the
type of car that you are considering. While black may be your preferred colour, you
may choose a different colour altogether because the colour black just doesn’t look
the best on a specific model.

Regardless of the type of vehicle, some people will have the same car colour their
entire lives, while there are other people who change the colour of their vehicle
every time they get a new car. In this sense, colour preference is really a personal
choice.

The car insurance colour myth

For some, their car colour choice is determined by the myth that exists about car
colour and insurance costs. Some people avoid buying a red car because they believe
that this colour car will cost more to insure. However, the colour myth is completely
false. The colour of your car doesn’t impact your insurance rates.
The top 5 car colours selected by consumers

While there are many different colours to consider, from traditional colours we see
every day to custom paint jobs, there are five main colours that are selected more
frequently by consumers. They are as follows:

   1. Red: A popular colour that is commonly seen on sports cars, however, we are seeing it
more and more on a variety of makes and models.
   2. Grey: This colour is up there with black as being one of the most popular. What we have
seen recently is an influx of shades of grey for consumers to choose from when buying a
      vehicle.
   3. Silver: Silver has gained in popularity over the past decade. Commonly seen on smaller
sporty car and pick-up trucks, this option is often selected when consumers want
something a little less conservative than grey.
   4. Black: Black has always been and will likely forever be one of the top five car colours.
There are virtually no cars that do not look good in black.
   5. White: White is the hot and trendy colour right now. Gone are the days of the matte
white as this has been upgraded to a more pearl white that has a nice shine. We see
consumers more frequently choosing white as their preferred colour no matter what
      make or model they purchase.

Car manufacturers continue to test the limits when it comes to the colours used for
vehicles. This is why we have seen new colours emerging that are brighter and more
vibrant then traditional colours. From bright orange to lime green and baby blue,
there is no shortage of colour options for consumers to consider.

However, before you go out and buy a car with a unique colour, think about its
resale value and how difficult a sell it might be five to ten years down the road.
