This is even truer for enterprises with international locations. Further cost reduction can be achieved by enterprises that run parallel data networks with the ability, for the NetPerformer, to integrate multiple data applications over the same network. In fact, the NetPerformer is one of the most complete solutions to consolidate, over a packet network, legacy networks (SNA, Async, Passthru/Circuit Emulation, etc.), which typically run on expensive leased line circuits. This help reduces cost since packet networks are less expensive and typically built for LAN traffic transport. Reduce Cost of Networking by Optimizing Bandwidth Utilization The ability for the NetPerformer to consolidate voice, legacy data and LAN traffic is possible because of its unique Cell Relay architecture called PowerCell. This architecture has the advantage of using fewer overheads, compared to other technologies, which makes integrated networking possible on low bandwidth networks (ex: satellite), therefore reducing network costs when using the NetPerformer. In order to converge multiple networks over a low bandwidth environment; all the different traffic is handled through the NetPerformer PowerCell engine. PowerCell fragments voice and data frames into cells and multiplexes them over the WAN network according to user specified priorities. Typically, voice traffic is transmitted first through high priority queue mechanics and delay sensitive traffic has priority over bursty data applications (ex: LAN). Finally, the NetPerformer uses advanced voice and data compression algorithms that further reduce bandwidth consumption. Ease Management and Operation of Voice and Data Networks The NetPerformer solution helps reduce overall operating costs of network maintenance by reducing the amount of equipment required to run an enterprise network. In fact, with the NetPerformer, enterprises can manage all their applications over a single converged platform. Using NetPerformer ACTview 3000 NMS software, which is SNMP base and runs over HP OpenView Network Node Manager for Windows and Sun Solaris, enterprise customers can monitor and manage their entire network from a single centralized Graphic User Interface (GUI). This system also provides alarm indications, which helps organization react more quickly to reduce network down time during network failures. This results in increased network productivity. The NetPerformer Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is low since the product his easy to learn, operate and manage when using the following built-in features: o Prompt driven local and remote console port o Text base configuration and voice mapping tables o FTP download and upload of firmware and configuration files o Remote diagnostic tools to monitor NetPerformer statistics and traffic with built-in data-scope capabilities. Provide Network Recovery Capabilities in Case of Link Failure The NetPerformer is a great solution to ensure network stability and productivity with its self-healing capabilities in case of main link failure. This provides the NetPerformer with abilities to automatically rerouting traffic through alternate routes and/or activates dial backup links when the main link fails. The utilization of switched links is controlled by a schedule, preventing the backup to be used when not needed, avoiding unnecessary charges on usage based networks. The NetPerformer also provides bandwidth on demand capabilities with its ability to activate dial-up links, typically used for dial-backup purposes, when the main link is overloaded. This helps organizations keep their network costs down by avoiding high fixed bandwidth costs. Verso Technologies, 2004 4 Provide Voice and Data Connectivity to Isolated Remote Locations With its ability to run over low bandwidth links, the NetPerformer is the ideal solution to bring voice and data integration to isolated remote locations reachable only via satellite links. Satellite links are costly and typically low speed. This benefits the NetPerformer because of its ability to compress and transport more voice and data traffic then its competition. The SkyPerformer that is a software option that runs on the NetPerformer further reduces cost of integrating voice and data over satellite by lowering the number of satellite frequencies (links) and RF equipment needed at the central site to reach remote locations. Extend Networks over Multiple Transport Types With PowerCell, the NetPerformer can run over multiple transport WANs (Frame Relay, ATM, ISDN, IP, leased/switched lines and satellite) and has the ability to load balance traffic and switch link connections across multiple network types. This flexibility provides ways for enterprise to build a converged network, using the NetPerformer, without having to stick to the same transport end-toennd Therefore, enterprises can choose the most convenient and affordable transport available for each location connected to the network. This feature also protects customers’ investment in NetPerformer equipments by providing them the flexibility to upgrade from one network transport to another when new and less expensive services become available. This solution, which provides access and core switching, creates hybrid networks by inter-connecting networks that would be otherwise separated. For example, with the NetPerformer, a satellite network can be connected and extended through a terrestrial network, which can help reduce the cost compared to using satellite end-to-end. Inter-connect Multi-vendor PBXs onto a Single Platform The NetPerformer' has extensive voice interface support (analog and digital), signaling protocols and supplementary services support as well as interoperability with multiple PBX brands; Enterprises can inter-connect disparate multi-vendor voice systems onto the same network. This is attractive for companies acquiring and/or merging with other companies. Provides an IP Migration Path for Legacy Equipment NetPerformer’s ability to transport legacy data protocols over packet networks provides ways for customers to extend their investment in legacy data equipment by migrating them to new networks. This helps companies continue running their legacy applications, which typically have staying power once they have been written and implemented into enterprise networks. Provide Standard SIP-based VoIP With the support of standard VoIP SIP the NetPerformer provides a migration path to IP for legacy TDM based PBXs. Also with SIP the NetPerformer provides connectivity between legacy PBXs/PSTN and new systems like IP PBXs and VoIP phones. Support of SIP protects customer investments in NetPerformer equipment by providing them the ability to re-deploy the NetPerformers, when needed, over VoIP managed services providing standard VoIP soft-switches and gateways. Verso Technologies, 2004 5 What is NetPerformer Integrated Access Offering? NetPerformer’s family of integrated access routers integrates both data and voice applications onto a single Wide Area Network (WAN). The result: award-winning solutions that transport any service– voice, fax/modem, LAN, and SNA – over any network infrastructure like PSTN, IP, Frame Relay and ATM with anyttoany switching capabilities. We call it the Power of Convergence–voice, video and data onto one costsavving bandwidth efficient and easy to manage network. Diagram Explanation: Enterprise On the left, the choices of user data and voice applications that are supported. Multiple user data and voice interfaces are transported at the same time while still honoring the QoS issues of each protocol. Service Provider On the right, the choices of transports that NetPerformer can use to communicate with each other across service provider networks. A NetPerformer network can include multiple WAN topologies in a single network. o For example a network can include a NetPerformer with a point-to-point connection to a NetPerformer with a satellite connection to a NetPerformer with an IP connection to a NetPerformer, and so on … Each NetPerformer within the entire disparate network has full communications capabilities to any of the other NetPerformers. Verso Technologies, 2004 6 Who Needs NetPerformer? Enterprises Converging Voice over their Corporate WAN Enterprises with existing intranet data networks would be interested in using the NetPerformer to move their inter-office long distance voice traffic over their existing data networks. This will provide them free long distances voice calls since the bandwidth used for voice, which is typically 8 kbps per channel, is minimal compared to data. The bandwidth required to carry the existing data traffic can be reduced with the NetPerformer data compression feature. Therefore, these enterprises won’t have to increase bandwidth on their existing data network when adding voice on top of it. Also, NetPerformer QoS mechanisms are used in order to retain voice quality, when converging with data, by always providing voice first priority. Mining and Oil & Gas Companies with Remote Field Locations Mining and Oil & Gas companies operate in non-typical environment with most of their locations being field remote sites only reachable via satellite. The NetPerformer is the perfect fit for satellite communication since it can integrate voice and data using less bandwidth then its competitors. This is done by providing better voice and data compression algorithms and by better data fragmentation. Finally, the SkyPerformer software option lowers satellite communication cost by using fewer frequencies, compared to standard satellite SCPC technology, when building converged voice/data networks, All of this without having to invest in expensive DAMA hub station. Military and Air Traffic Control Applications The NetPerformer is used frequently in military and air traffic control applications because of its ability to transport legacy data (HDLC, Async, Passthru, etc) and radar traffic in both point-to-point and point to multipooin mode. This, combined with the fact that the NetPerformer can concentrate a high number of serial ports to one location, makes the NetPerformer the idea solution to build converged voice and legacy serial data networks. Finally, with the satellite support of the NetPerformer as well as with its high reliability makes it the perfect solution for this type of applications. Large Enterprises with IBM SNA Applications (Banking, Government, etc.) In large organizations, many software applications are running over IBM mainframes and are networked together using IBM SNA protocol. For example, many banking applications -particularly automated teller machines – are written on SNA multi-drop applications. Therefore, the ability of the NetPerformer to support SNA, convert it from SDLC to LLC, spoof it and prioritize it gives customers more convergence opportunities. For enterprises that already have an IP network and a separate SNA network, the ability for the NetPerformer to converge the two networks together and add voice is a very cost attractive proposal. Enterprises Running Critical Applications For enterprises running critical applications, where network downtime has to be minimal, the NetPerformer is the ideal solution because of its set of recovery features. First, the NetPerformer has ability to load-balance traffic over multi-link connections going to the same location, which reduces risk of losing that site. Also, it has the ability to activate dial-backup links, in case of link failure, and add links when the main links are congested. It can also run parallel connections over different network types, re-route traffic when links are lost or dial-backup links are in the process of being activated and it can switch voice call back to the local PSTN if required. Finally, the NetPerformer provide high reliability with its power supply and unit redundancy capabilities. Recovery and Emergency Sites Applications With the NetPerformer ability to provide voice and data services over satellite, the product is ideal to build recovery and emergency systems especially when combined with mobile satellite solutions. This is typically used in order to re-establish connections to area where all methods of communication were lost due to natural catastrophes, war or terrorism. Verso Technologies, 2004 7 Toll-bypass Applications Large enterprises and carriers who want to transport voice calls over a packet networks, without sacrificing too much bandwidth, will be interested in the NetPerformer. This because the NetPerformer has the ability to do voice trunking applications, between PBXs or PSTN voice switches, over multiple WAN types while being more bandwidth efficient than standard based VoIP. This is possible since, in Toll-bypass applications, voice call control is typically provided by the TDM voice switches and therefore, VoIP soft-switches are not required to operate this type of networks. NetPerformer Value Propositions NetPerformer provides value and ROI in several ways: Cost Reduction Converge parallel voice & data networks o Eliminate costly multiple networks by shifting intra-company voice traffic from the high-cost PSTN to the data WAN. Improved bandwidth efficiency through compression o Reduce total network traffic using state-of-the-art compression algorithms and PowerCell cells-within-frames technology. CELL-BASED TECHNOLOGY: The NetPerformer’s Cell-Based Protocol Prioritization results are reliable delivery of time-sensitive information, efficient bandwidth utilization and consistent quality of service for multiple media types. Cell Fragmentation: To avoid latency problems, the NetPerformer cuts frames into cells, starts processing immediately and sends the cells to the next node. The process is so efficient that the first few cells may be traveling on the network before the end of the frame has been fragmented. This process improves the response time to end-users. Store-and-forward routers must wait for the entire frame to be received before any processing can begin. Cell Prioritization: NetPerformer offers data prioritization at the cellular level by protocol, port, or address. Data enters the processing stream according to its assigned priority. That is, when cutting, queuing and transmitting the cells, high-priority data goes first. And once the priority level is set, it is maintained throughout the network. Most routers now offer prioritization at the frame level. However, a prioritized frame can be considerably delayed if it is queued after a couple of long frames. Cell Mixing: Cells from different output queues are packaged into frame format in relation to their respective priorities. Combining cells from different sources going to different destinations within the same standard frame relay frame allows the NetPerformer to establish end-to-end virtual connections at the cell level over public frame relay or private leased line networks. Any type of legacy traffic can then be routed (and re-routed in case of network failure) throughout a network in its native form. Also, any-to-any connectivity, particularly useful for voice traffic, can be provided using a single frame relay PVC per remote site. Verso Technologies, 2004 12 Cell Switching: NetPerformer has adapted the cell relay technology of reserved channel allocation scheme to the lower-speed WAN environment. NetPerformer establishes a source/destination pipeline using dynamic routing tables and sends cells along this path. Intermediary NetPerformer nodes just check the small header of each cell to determine where it should go. They act like switches that are automatically set to relay the cell in the right direction. Unlike the encapsulation technique, which requires that every intermediate node receive the full frame before acting on it, with NetPerformer, any given traffic flows straight through its optimal Virtual Connection to the final destination without further processing. This cell switching process results in better response times and greater connectivity in a mixed protocol environment. A full mesh network is established with fewer PVC’s and at lower cost. Which NetPerformer Product Do I Need?
