The drain pan shall extend past the downstream face of the coil by a minimum of 12”. M3 - Indoor Air Quality Features • Stainless Steel Drain Pan standard on all AAON Modular Air Handlers • Benefits: • High resistance to corrosion prevents leaks that can occur to due to deteriorated drain pan SPECIFICATION • Construct drain pans from 304 stainless steel with cross break and double sloping pitch to drain connection. M3 - Indoor Air Quality Features • Cleanable Drain Pan / Raised Coil • Benefits: • Readily cleanable drain pan promotes improved indoor air quality. SPECIFICATION • Coil shall be mechanically supported above the drain pan by minimum of 2” by coil supports that aid in drain pan cleaning. Hat channels and other devices that prevent access to the drain pan shall not be acceptable. M3 - Indoor Air Quality Features • Cleanable Metal Interior Liners • Benefits: • Cleanable metal liner provides a smooth surface that is easily wiped down. • Eliminates materials on the interior of air handler that tend to trap dirt and moisture and can become breeding grounds for mold and mildew. SPECIFICATION • Panels and access doors shall be constructed with a cleanable metal interior liner. Interior liners constructed of fibrous glass, other types of insulation or material that may trap dirt and moisture are not acceptable. M3 - Indoor Air Quality Features • Hinged Access is standard on AAON M3. • Benefits: • An important element in any program to combat the growth and distribution of mold is good maintenance. Key system components must be inspected and cleaned on a regular basis. • A rule of maintenance is equipment that is not easy to maintain won't be. SPECIFICATION • Access Doors shall be flush mounted to cabinetry, with stainless steel piano-type hinges, latch and full size (4.5" minimum) handle assembly. Door shall swing outward for unit sections under negative pressure (inward for unit sections under positive pressure). M3 - Indoor Air Quality Features • Less than 1% leakage at +/- 8” w.g. • Benefits: • Reduce amount of unfiltered, unconditioned air into space. • Reduced opportunity for infiltration to condense inside unit walls. • Reduced opportunity for exfiltration to condense on outside of unit walls. SPECIFICATION • The completed cabinet casing leakage rate shall not exceed 1% when tested at 8” of static pressure. Caulking of unit panel seams is not allowed. AAON M3 Modular Air Handler Energy & Economics M3 - Energy & Economic Features • Less than 1% leakage at +/- 8” w.g. • Benefits: • Reduction of unconditioned air entering air unit downstream of coil for negative pressure system. • Reduction of conditioned air leaving air unit for positive pressure system. SPECIFICATION • The completed cabinet casing leakage rate shall not exceed 1% when tested at 8” of static pressure. Caulking of unit panel seams is not allowed. The casing leakage rate shall not exceed 0.2 cfm per square foot of cabinet area at 5" static pressure. M3 - Energy & Economic Features • Backward Curved, Direct-Drive Plenum Blowers • Benefits: • Backward curved fans are more efficient, quieter and can handle higher static pressures than forward curved fans. • Direct drive plenum blowers are more efficient than belt driven plenum blowers because no energy is lost due to sound creation, friction and wear of the belt. SPECIFICATION • Provide single width, single inlet, un-housed, backward curved, centrifugal plenum supply [return] fan(s). The fan shall be directly driven by the motor. Fans driven by belts shall not be acceptable. M3 - Energy & Economic Features • Slide Out Coil Construction • Benefits: • Easy service of upper or lower coil assembly. • Coils are removable from either side and independently supported on tracks. • Upper and lower coils can be serviced independently. SPECIFICATION • All coils shall be installed on tracks for easy removal from the air handling unit. All coils shall be able to be removed from left or right hand side of the unit. Units that require disassembly of the unit for coil removal are not acceptable. Upper and lower coils shall be capable of independent removal. Units that require both the upper and lower coil to be removed for the service of one coil are not acceptable. M3 - Energy & Economic Features • L/240 Deflection Capability • Benefits: • Less fatigue during operational pressures, which leads to reduced opportunities for L leakage over time. D • Less flexing and bowing during rigging and easier jobsite assembly of modules. • It is the panel deflection not the panel gauge D < L/240 that determines the rigidness of a panel. SPECIFICATION • Panel deflection shall not exceed L/240 ratio at 125% of design static pressure, maximum 8 inches of positive or negative static pressure. Deflection shall be measured at the midpoint of the panel height. M3 - Energy & Economic Features • Foam R-13 to R-19 insulation • Benefits: • Closed cell foam insulation has more than twice the insulating value of ½ lb. density fiberglass insulation of the same thickness. • 2” AAON foam insulation = R-13 • 2” ½ lb. density fiberglass insulation = R-3 • Provides consistent insulation throughout the air handler construction. SPECIFICATION • The air handling unit’s walls and roof shall be insulated to meet a minimum thermal conductivity (R value) of 13 BTU/hr-ft2-F. • The air handling unit’s floor shall be insulated to meet a minimum thermal conductivity (R value) of 19 BTU/hr-ft2-F. M3 - Energy & Economic Features • Interchangeable Panels & Access Doors • Benefits: • Easy field exchange of mechanically fastened panel to hinged access panel. • Provides flexibility at jobsite if unforeseen obstacles prevent access to planned entry. SPECIFICATION • Panels and access doors shall be constructed such that panels and access door are interchangeable from side to side of the unit. Access doors shall be symmetrically constructed such that door handing can be reversed by rotating the door 180 degrees. AAON M3 Modular Air Handler Acoustics M3 - Acoustical Features • Spring Isolated Fan and Motor Assembly • Benefits: • Vibration isolation for sound sensitive applications. • Isolators are specifically sized for each fan assembly. SPECIFICATION • Fan and motor shall be mounted internally on a steel base. Fan and motor assembly shall be mounted on 1" deflection spring vibration type isolators inside cabinetry. Unit base, rigid mounted inside cabinetry shall not be acceptable. M3 - Acoustical Features • Multiple Fan Selections Available via AAONEcat™. • Benefits: • Multiple fan assemblies can be selected from on each job to provide flexibility. • Fan options can be reviewed for important criteria including, sound power levels, cost and redundancy. GUIDE M3 - Acoustical Features • Double Wall Construction Decreases Resonated Sound • Benefits: • Double wall construction provides excellent temperature and sound insulation. • Spaces surrounding the air handler are quieter than would be with standard single wall construction. SPECIFICATION • Panels and access doors shall be constructed as a 2- inch (50 mm) nominal thick; thermal broke to eliminate any metal conductive path through the panel double wall assembly, injected with foam insulation for an R-value of not less than R-13. AAON M3 Modular Air Handler Controls M3 – Controls • Factory Installed Controls • Benefits: • Higher quality and consistency with AAON pre-engineered, factory mounted and commissioned controls. • Lower field labor costs. • ETL approval SPECIFICATION • The manufacturer’s final test procedure will assure that the products from the provider are delivered through a quality system and framework that will assure consistent quality in products delivered.
