However Christmas is not my favorite season because of shopping Hudson Neely

The nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ is the message that God comes
ripping into the hard reality of our daily living with a new hope and a Shawn Cothran
message of peace. It’s no mistake that our early church fathers Dir. of Youth & Young Adult Ministry
chose the winter solstice for the celebration of Christmas. When the
world is dark and cold, and facing the immediacy of months and Stephen Nix

This year I want to invite you to a special celebration at HPC. On Alice O’Dwyer
Christmas Eve at 5pm, we will gather in our Sanctuary for a Child Care Coordinator
“Moravian-style” Love Feast. Let me explain what you can expect. As
we gather, you will be invited to informally share in a cup of coffee or Janie Hay
cider, and a Moravian sweet bun. This love feast, as remembered by Office Manager
the Moravians, was the ancient Christian precursor to our celebration
of communion. We will sing favorite Christmas carols together, and Gloria Shiavi
read again the story of the nativity from Luke. I will share a brief mes- Office Assistant
sage, and together we will adjourn with candles in hand to take the
message of peace and joy out into the world. There is nothing like Carole Shean
singing Silent Night basking in the glow of Christmas candles on a Financial Administrator
chilly winter night. All are invited to this casual family style service. We
plan to gather for about an hour, still leaving time for family dinners Cynthia White
and an early night to bed for all those awaiting Saint Nicholas. I hope Director of Creative Care Center
and pray you will be a part of this special night at church.

There are many opportunities to help out with this large and important service program. Please keep check-
ing the sign-up board that is outside of Fellowship Hall each week to see where you might be able to fill in a
slot to assist with being an innkeeper, driving the van, preparing a meal or snack bags, helping with the
laundry. And please remember to check your closets for warm clothing that maybe you’re not using any

LUKE 14:12
12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your broth-
ers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be
repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be
blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
On the second Friday in November, we were honored to serve 265 men and women a delicious meal of lob-
ster ravioli (donated by Whole Foods Green Hills) and covered with a crab sauce created by our chef Vin-
cent. There was also some delicious molasses cookies with raisons made that morning. Serving were Lucy
Carroll, Jill Reddig, Paula Yelverton, Woody Gant, Lydia Spragins, Gayle Sanders, Lynne McCalla, Jim and
Julia Harrell, Debbie Locke, Melinda Culver, Cathy Pallardy, Hazel Nichols and Linda Kilpatrick.
Grayline, who works for Luke 14:12 and has become a friend of ours with his ready smile and easy manner,
moved into his apartment this past week. He is off the street and in a safe place of his own at last. All our
service team plus one of the life groups helped him with 16 bags of groceries plus some other things to make
his move easy. He says, with a smile, that it's hard to get used to the quiet at night, but it's getting better.
We'll be serving again on December 14th. Come and join us if you can. I think you will find joy in this minis-
try that only takes about an hour and a half, once a month. Contact Linda Kilpatrick at 371-0405 or
