How to Be More Productive In Your Home

I love working from home and being my own boss. No one monitoring my schedule and
assigning me stuff to do. It’s unbelievably awesome to have that time freedom.
Having said that, it can sometimes be misleading.
I mean, you have all of this time to do whatever you want, and then the next thing you know the
day is over and nothing has gotten done.
How To Be More Productive
The biggest thing about working for yourself and “being the boss” is to ﬁgure out how to be
more productive and get a good handle on doing the tasks that actually make you money.
Even when those things are our least favorite things to do. You know, the stuff we put off.
For me, I like social media and networking with people online. But I’ve noticed that if I sit
down without a timeframe and a clear focus on what I intend to accomplish, I can waste a ton of
time. So, it’s deﬁnitely important to know how to be more productive there.
Not that looking at my friend’s photo of the spit bowl at her dentist’s ofﬁce isn’t valuable on
some level (it certainly was entertaining) it’s not going to generate income.
And I get it, sometimes you just want the company and camaraderie Working from home can
get a little lonely and social sites make for great water coolers and a great way to catch up on
But again...not always great for business.
So how to be more productive? What do you need to do?
Master time management.
I’ve noticed that if I have all day to do something, if left to my own carefree nature, I will indeed
take all day to do it.
If on the other hand, I only have an hour to do something, then I will get it done in an hour.
One of the tricks I use to keep me on task is to create a sense of urgency. Pull out a stopwatch
and promise yourself some kind of a reward for getting an assignment done on time.
Or, better yet...assign a dollar value to your time and decide if your time is worth spending hours
on a particular task or just minutes.
That can be a pretty sobering discovery.
Another tip on how to be more productive is to write a "to-do" list.
But the key here is to write it before you need it.
Do it at night before you go to bed.
For me, if I wake up and see there’s nothing to do...I sometimes think that there is nothing to do
and I take my sweet time getting started with my day.
But if I get up and see a schedule then WHAM it’s focus and productivity time.
And lastly, be able to know the difference between a necessary action item and an incoming
While a lot of the things we do are important, they don’t all lead to making money.
So it’s important to schedule all of your income generating activities ﬁrst, and then move on to
