provisions of the City ordinances and State laws will be complied with whether herein specified or not. I am the owner of the property

that after the approval of this application, I will apply for and be granted a Compton Business License and will not open my
business to the public until such license is granted.

          CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY REVIEW PROCESS
Steps

   1. The applicant submits the completed application form and pays the $185.00 filing fee.
      (For a Home Business the fee is $50.00)

   2. The Planning and Economic Development Department reviews the application and mails
      the applicant an acceptance letter with sign off sheet informing them to contact the Fire
      and Building Department to request an inspection. The building must be accessible to
      inspectors on the day inspections are scheduled and the correct address and suite
      numbers must be posted. When the inspectors inspect your business have them sign
      your sign off sheet.

   3. Upon completion of the onsite inspections by the Fire and Building and Safety
      Departments and they have signed your sign off form, bring it into the Planning and
      Economic Development Department so that staff may finalize and issue you a Certificate
      of Occupancy. The Certificate of Occupancy review time depends on the applicant
      requesting inspections in a timely manner. Typical processing times are about two to
      three weeks.

Explanation of Certificate of Occupancy categories

A. Change in Use Application Materials:

        Check if a change in the current type of business is proposed. The submission of 2
        copies of a site plan, floor plan and site photos maybe required at the discretion of the
        staff. Three-five color photos of the exterior business; photos should capture all
        buildings/structures, parking and landscaping on the site. Minimum plan size shall be at
        the discretion of the staff, but 8-1/2 by 11 will typically be adequate the information is
        illegible and require a larger size such as 18” x 24”.

        Plans shall delineate elevation, floor plans, parking, landscaping and the overall site plan
        showing location of building and ingress and egress into the project site.

B. Change of Ownership only Application Materials:

        If the former use is the same as the proposed use but there is a transfer of ownership,
        2 copies of the overall Site Plan showing location of the building structure and ingress
        and egress into the project site are required. Three-five color photos of the exterior
        business; photos should capture all buildings/structures, parking and landscaping on the
        site. Minimum plan size shall be at the discretion of the staff, but 8-1/2 by 11 will
        typically be adequate the information is illegible and require a larger size such as 18” x
        24”. Change in Ownership certificates for existing structures are issued by the Planning
        and Economic Development Department.
