Pool Care Tips That You Must Know
We all have many dreams but only a few of them become reality. Owning a swimming pool is a
beautiful dream that came true. You are now having your little oasis in the backyard of your home. It is
so pleasant to chill in a swimming pool on a sunny day and have some fun with your kids. Playing
games in the pool, swimming or just laying in the sun on an inflatable lounger are just a few
possibilities to relax and enjoy the time spent with your family and friends.
Whether you have an above ground pool or an in-ground pool you must keep in mind that proper pool
care and maintenance will keep health problems away from the people who are using the pool. Also, if
you follow a cleaning schedule and you respect all the instructions from the maintenance manual you
will have no problems for a long time.
First of all you must clean the skimmer basket of debris every day. Otherwise the dirt will get into the
filtration system and block the pipes. Also, the pump will work slower and harder. It might be possible
to burn its engine and this means some extra money to spend. Don’t forget about the 2 or 3 chlorine
tablets that must be in the skimmer basket. A proper level of chlorine keeps your pool free of algae and
bacteria. If the water colour turns to a light green it is a sign that the chlorine level is too low.
You have to brush the walls of the pool every week. You must choose the brush depending on the
material that the pool is made of. A stainless steel brush is good for concrete or plaster pools but for
vinyl pools you must use a nylon bristle brush. The dirt from the bottom of the pool must be removed
with a vacuum at least once a week. Just keep in mind not to pull the head of the vacuum above the
water before you finished vacuuming to avoid spreading debris on the water surface.
If the pool is not sanitized regularly, you have to shock it by adding an important amount of chlorine in
the water. Chemical stores sell shock treatments in bags, boxes or buckets which come with a
measuring cup. You have to pour the chemicals all around the pool and on its edges. Don’t use the pool
for 24 hours after shocking and let the pump running during this period. A high level of chlorine can
induce skin irritations, red eyes and breathing difficulties.
The pH level must be checked with pH sensitive strips from time to time. If it is not the correct one you
have to make adjustments with muriatic acid to decrease the water pH or washing soda to increase it. If
you clean the pool on a regular basis you will avoid the problems caused by growing algae or the
developing of bacteria. This way you’ll make sure everything is set for your kid to start having fun in
