The Audacity of Park Slope Newsletter
May 21, 2007. Welcome! The Audacity of Park Slope is a grassroots organization founded in Park Slope, Brooklyn to support Barack Obama in his quest for presidency. The Audacity of Park Slope is an independent group and is not authorized, funded or supported by Obama for America. We are still in the process of setting up a website, laying the ground rules for fund raising and planning house parties. Please keep an eye out as our plans come to fruit over the next few weeks. If you would like to join a committee or participate in an upcoming event and have not signed up yet, please contact Gabriele Sewtz (gsewtz@yahoo.com ) or Bill Beckler (wbeckler@gmail.com ). This newsletter will be sent out every Monday, deadline for submissions is Saturday. For now, submissions for future issues can be sent to Brandon Haskins(brandon@bigmanfilms.com)
EVENTS:
THIS WEEK: No events listed for this week. UPCOMING: June 9, 2007 – Audacity of Park Slope Walk Over the last weeks we directly talked to the Barack Obama campaign regarding the national day of canvassing on June 9th, 2007. As a result, our event is featured on the Barack Obama web site as a major event. We need your help to make June 9th a success. Please go to the web site and sign up for the event. Just click on NY on the map and the featured event will show up on the right of the screen or enter our zip code 11215 and a list of events will show up. Initially we will all meet a one central spot and then branch out to different locations across the neighborhood to talk to our neighbors about Barack Obama and what he stands for. We will provide you with support material that can be handed out. We need as many volunteers as we can get to be visible and to have an impact in Park Slope. This will also be a great opportunity for all of us to reunite after the initial kick off and we are planning a fun after party. So please sign up and get the word out so that friends and family can join in as well.
COMMITTEE NOTES:
EVENTS & ORGANIZING:
Submitted by William Beckler In coordination with the Obama campaign, Audacity of Park Slope is being invited to help kick off a major canvassing day on June 9. We are being asked to help host a Saturday morning gathering for Park Slopers and other Brooklynites to meet before going into our neighborhoods throughout the day to recruit new volunteers and raise money. At the end of the day, after canvassing has finished, Caran and a group of others will be throwing a giant fundraising celebration in Manhattan at Hiro Ballroom, at which canvassers and interested people we meet can party together. FUNDRAISING: Submitted by Alex Basson Greetings from the Fundraising Committee. We met Friday, April 20, and had a very productive meeting. We discussed the current and future activities of AoPS, and long-term strategies to secure funding for our work.. As of now, AoPS has purchased the Domans audacityofparkslope.com and audacityofparkslope.org, thanks to a generous donation from one of our members. We have also opened a bank account, and appointed a treasurer for AoPS's budget, Jenny Robinson Hartley. As an organization we are ready to raise awareness in our area about Barack Obama by: Building a web site and getting it hosted online. Canvassing Park Slope and the surrounding neighborhoods to recruit more members into AoPS. Hosting more house parties/events to discuss Senator Obama's campaign, his positions on issues, and the exciting promise of his presidency. We need your financial support of a one-time donation to help us raise seed money to achieve these goals. If each current member of AoPS donated $10, we would have over $200 with which to plan and hold AoPS events; if everyone gave $20, we would have over $400. If you are able, please make a donation. We have opened an account for AoPS, but for the time being all checks must be written to the treasurer's name. If you are sending a check, please write the check to Jenny Robinson Hartley and add AoPS in the byline. We will not be able to deposit checks written directly to Audacity of Park Slope or AoPS at this time. Please include your name, address and employer for accounting purposes. PLEASE NOTE: Your donations are NOT tax-deductible, and because we are not an unaffiliated PAC, they will be counted against your $2,300 limit for supporting Senator Obama's nomination. Send all donations to: Jenny Robinson Hartley Attn: AoPS Treasurer 308 12th St. #2R Brooklyn, NY 11215
