We will be telling Flash to preload big images and
sounds in our movie before the entire movie starts
to play. Anything can be said while the movie is
loading like "20% Completed" or "Loading Sounds".
Anything you like. Before you go crazy, practice
with my basic movie during this tutorial.

First download my movie for this tutorial. You’ll
get the hang of this and be able to do anything you
want with an existing or future movie in mind. Load
the movie I made in Flash.

Make a new Scene by going to
                                                   Windows>Inspectors>Scene. Click on the Add
button. Now click on the Properties button and
name your new Scene "Preloader". Click on it and
drag it above the Main Movie scene like shown.
Click on the small x to close the window.

Before we continue, make sure you are in the
Main Movie Scene. You will see that I have added a
sound and picture on certain frames. Frame 1 is a
horse picture with a sound, frame 20 is a cow
picture that makes a cow sound and so on.

These pictures and sounds take a while to load, so
we are going to make flash preload them before the
movie plays. The surfer will also know how much
longer they’ll wait before the movie plays.
Now switch to the Preloader Scene. Click on
frame 1. Use the Text Tool and make some text that
says "25%".

Right click on Frame 1 and select
Properties>Action. Click on the + button and choose
If Frame is Loaded. For Scene select Main Movie.
Dot Label and select Horse. Now click on the +
button once more and select Go to. For Scene
select Preloader. For Frame Number choose 5.
Check the box that says Go To and Play.
I’ve used labels on my movie to make it easier for
you to understand. Such as: Horse and Cow.
Labels work well because you can customize the
name. For instance, instead of choosing frame 11,
you can just select "Movie Sounds". Much easier to
remember names then frame numbers :)

Now we will make an Action that acts like a
loop. If the horse is not loaded yet, then it will keep
looping that "20%" over and over. Ok, here we go...
Right click on frame 4 and select Insert Keyframe
(Make sure you click on frame 4 and not 5). Then
double-click frame 4. Click on the Action tab. Click
on the + button and choose Go To. For Scene
select Preloader. For Frame Number enter 1. Check
the box that says Go To and Play. Now click OK.

Now we will make the next preload segment.
After 20% is loaded, then it moves to 50%. Let’s
make the 50% part; Right click on frame 5 and
select Insert Keyframe. Make some text that says
50%. Double-click on Frame 5 and select
Properties>Action. Click on the + button and choose
If Frame is Loaded. For Scene select Main Movie.
Dot Label and select Cow. Now click on the +
button once more and select Go to. For Scene
select Preloader. For Frame Number choose 10.
Check the box that says Go To and Play. Click OK.
Right click on frame 9. Choose Insert
Keyframe. Now double-click frame 9. Click on the
Action Tab. Click on the + button and select Go To.
For Scene select Preloader. Frame Number is 5.
Click OK.
Now the preloader for the Cow is made, followed by
the preloader for the Horse. Get it? After the horse
loads, then the cow starts to preload. You can make
a whole scene just containing sounds and images
to preload on your own movies. Then after
everything loads, your main movie will be ready to
play.

Right click on frame 10 and select Insert
Keyframe. Make some text that says 75%. Double-
click on Frame 10 and select Properties>Action.
Click on the + button and choose If Frame is
Loaded. For Scene select Main Movie. Dot Label
and select Cat. Now click on the + button once
more and select Go to. For Scene select Preloader.
For Frame Number choose 10. Check the box that
says Go To and Play. Click OK.

Right click on frame 14. Choose Insert
Keyframe. Now double-click frame 14. Click on the
Action Tab. Click on the + button and select Go To.
For Scene select Preloader. Frame Number is 10.
Click OK.

Right click on frame 15 and select Insert
Keyframe. Make some text that says 99%. Double-
click on Frame 15 and select Properties>Action.
Click on the + button and choose If Frame is
Loaded. For Scene select Main Movie. Dot Label
and select Puppy. Now click on the + button once
more and select Go to. For Scene select Main
Movie. For Frame Number choose 1. Check the box
that says Go To and Play. Click OK.
Right click on frame 20. Choose Insert
Keyframe. Now double-click frame 20. Click on the
Action Tab. Click on the + button and select Go To.
For Scene select Preloader. Frame Number is 15.
Click OK.
You are finished.
Testing Movie
1.) Go to Control>Test Movie.
2.) Go to Show>Streaming.
