ABOUT SOS FOUNDATION INC & ITS ‘PITaR’
TREATMENT & REHABILITATION PROGRAMD NETWORK
The termination of financial aid to SOS Foundation Inc will bring many problems to
numerous families of the Russian-American Community of New York State. SOS
Foundation Inc, during its three (3) years of NYS OASAS financing and NYC DMH
Contract work, has not only successfully fulfilled all contract obligations, but has also
created in the community an absolutely unique and effective prevention, treatment and
rehabilitation network. More than 20 community organizations and professional services
under SOS Foundation Inc supervision have combined their expertise, experience and
opportunities in order to decrease the spread of the drug epidemic among children in the
community and to make treatment for needy people less expensive and more effective.
This network includes various programs of medical and psychological rehabilitation,
vocational programs, social rehabilitation and programs for changing an old lifestyle with
a dependence on drugs and alcohol to a new healthy lifestyle, one without narcotic
substances. Network programs also focus on a very important issue: preventative steps
against the recurrence of drug or alcohol abuse. Each independent member performs only
his/her professional duty and service, but the combination of all network services
provides a unique and effective chance to each client for full recovery and return to a
normal life.
SOS Foundation Inc is not only the initiator and organizer of the project ‘PITaR’
network, but is also the coordinator of all client cases that are in this Network’s
programs. Termination of financial aid will inevitable lead to an unfortunate situation:
SOS Foundation Inc will have no choice but to close its doors to all clients and
discontinue all existing services.
Without SOS supervision the entire complex of project ‘PITaR’ Network services will
collapse. In New York State there is not a single treatment system under one
organization’s supervision that offers and provides all necessary recovery services like
SOS Foundation Network does. All project ‘PITaR’ Network current and future clients
requiring treatment and rehabilitation services will face the problem of having to seek
another effective way to recovery. We are sorry to say: they will not find such
organization as SOS Foundation Network anywhere in New York State and, as a result,
they will lose hope for long-expected recovery and will return to “the street” of alcohol
and drug abuse and addiction. The shutting down of SOS Foundation Inc will
constitute an irreplaceable loss for the entire Russian-speaking community of New
York State.
For the 3 years (2001-2003) of NYS OASAS financial aid the SOS Foundation staff
consisted of only 1 full-time employee and 3 half- and less than half-day working
employees performed the following services:
Individual consulting and counseling - about 2,700 people
Group meetings & workshops -over 600 (about 4,200
people)
2
Community events -over 300 (over 120,000
people)
Telephone consultations -over 5,000 calls
Published original educational articles -over 150
Radio & TV program -about 80
