Thai Food and Fresh Ingredients
By Charles Cheow
Thai food is popular food that can be found throughout the world. In the United States, there
are many people who embrace the unique smells and tastes of this Asian based food. The
versatile use of spices and flavors makes this ethnic food popular throughout the world.
When you think of Thai food, you will likely first think of the freshness of all of the ingredients.
Depending on which dish you order, as well as your personal preferences, you will find options
for both sweet and spicy dishes. Curry dishes figure prominently in this cuisine that hails from
Thailand. You can find yellow, green, red, and massaman. Due to the ease of preparation and its
compatibility with a variety of meats and seafood, curry is a favorite seasoning for those cooks
that prepare this type of food.
Typically when Thai food is prepared, rice noodles are used instead of those made of eggs or
wheat. This gives the noodles a more delicate and fragile texture that is normally seen in the
pasta dishes that most Americans are used to eating. This type of food is heavily influenced by
the Chinese due to the close proximity of the two countries. Both soy sauce and the wok were
adopted by Thailand from China.
Stir fries are one of the most popular dishes in Thai food. These flavorful and fragrant dishes
combine lots of fresh vegetables, fresh meat, and a variety of spices and seasonings. Due to the
ease of preparation, stir fries are a great dish to try if you are making your first Thai food dish.
You simply quickly cook a variety of fresh vegetables, such as red, green, and yellow peppers,
onions, and the like, with your choice of meat, noodles, or tofu. Add some curry if you want
some heat in your dish. Otherwise, you can use soy sauce, lime juice, chili sauce, fish sauce,
lemon grass, and even a little bit of sugar to help you find that perfect balance between spicy
and sweet. Sometimes this balance between both sweet and spicy takes some practice to
achieve. It can be fun to practice with it.
