WOW the year is almost over – tax season is just around the corner. There is a lot to think about – Do I go paperless (or less paper), Will I change software, What tax schools will I go to (NATP), What do I get my spouse for Christmas, can I find the special toy? I hope you will go to your chapter seminar on Oct 31st and to a National 1040 workshop. If you come to the National 1040 in Springfield be sure to say Hi. There have been several new tax laws and laws that have been attached to other bills so its time to go back to school. NATP has grown to 18,600 members making MO‐ NATP the professional tax organization to join. But there are still a lot of income tax professionals out there, so you must have a friend that needs the services of NATP, so Don’t Keep NATP A SECRET – TELL A FRIEND. You could receive a gift!! Your chapter is looking for a few good members to serve on the Board of Directors or committees – So why not volunteer? I hope to see you at the Fall Tax Seminar at the Isle of Capri in Boonville on Oct 31. Drive carefully – the IRS needs all the taxpayers it can get.

Your chapter board has talked for some time about having a newsletter for our members. So I, Leslie McMillen, have agreed to put one together. As the name implies, we need a name for our newsletter. Please send in your suggestions. You might win a free subscription! We are planning one quarterly to start. I will need your help and support. I welcome any comments, suggestions or any items of interest that you would like to see included. Call, write or e‐mail. I am listed in the board of directors As noticed in the meeting flyer, would any member like to take part in the leadership of the MO chapter? There are a couple of directors whose terms are up this year and we need someone from the northeast. Are all of you aware of the telephone forums presented by IRS for us? They are free and you can earn CPE credit. Questions? nationalphoneforum@irs.gov New rules (again) for qualifying child, EITC and child tax credit for the year 2008. The Treasury Department continues to look for ways to close the “Tax Gap”. Things considered include (but not limited to), more audits, coordination with State governments, expanded preparer penalties, required E‐ filling of returns, changing AMT again and expansion of information reporting (1099’s) including withholding of estimated tax.
