Myspectral is a research, development and production company specializing in spectrometry. We developed first
open source spectrometer in the world - Spectruino. We miniaturize, adapt and utilize all resources of 8, 16 and 32-
bit microcontrollers. In 2013 our open spectrometer is being launched into space basic and the "ArduSat" mission.
The University of Economics in Bratislava (UEBA) is one of the largest centers of as part of applied research in
economics, management and business in Slovakia. Broad spectrum of research themes is studied with special
emphasis on transition economics, knowledge economy, European economics and business. The university has
strong research potential in terms of qualified academic staff and established research networks, it is active in the
organization of international research events, conferences, seminars and workshops, the publications in refereed
academic journals by the UEBA staff. UEBA research activities include basic research, applied research and
research related to the needs of the teaching process (e.g. the design and innovation of teaching methodologies,

We have been working in the field of EEG biofeedback. The aim of the work was to measure the effect of EEG
biofeedback therapy on motor, cognitive and emotional deficits of children with cerebral disability of different levels
and compare this effect with classical rehabilitation. We assumed that applying neurofeedback therapy (EEG
biofeedback) will strengthen the control of impulsivity and attention and among other manifestation of treatment will
include improvement in motor and coordination skills. This was a prospective multidisciplinary study (Pediatric
Neurology, Neurorehabilitation, Neuropsychology), which was part of the grant of the European Union. We also been
worked in the field of developmental kinesiology and neurophysiological techniques and their application and use in
rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
Faculty of Business Economics with seat in Košice as part of University of Economics provides two kinds of services.
First of them education. The second one is science and research. As our core business in research, we put emphasis
on improvement of business processes in companies we are in cooperation, through Six Sigma or Design for Six

Nanoscience Study of interactions between nanoparticles (NP) and the components of the immune system as
important part of safety assessment of promising nanomaterials. Research on nanosafety is aimed to develop
understanding of the potential for toxicity of, in the first line, nanomaterials aimed particularly for therapeutic and
diagnostic purposes, and those coming into any kind of contact with human body during industrial processing.
Installation for in vitro/and in vivo immunotoxicity studies is available at the Department of Immunology and
Immunotoxicology, Slovak Medical University. Laboratory of Immunotoxicology fulfills the requirements requested by
Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations for facilities engaged in toxicology testing (OECD and EU Directives).
Laboratory has certificate of Good Laboratory Practice and Laboratory of Immunology has Accreditation certificate
according to the STN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005. Consortium has long-term experience in vivo/in vitro testing
strategies used for chemicals and materials including nanomaterials. Recent research has been focused on
mechanisms of toxicity of asbestos substitute mineral fibres. Using intratracheal instillation and inhalation exposure
(nose-only), we studied the effects of precisely defined respirable fibres (+ /-cigarette smoke in in vivo experiments)
on the onset of pathological processes (immunotoxicity, cytotoxicity, fibrogenicity, carcinogenicity in acute, subchronic
and chronic models) based on cellular or humoral defence response. Moreover, biochemical parameters, reactive
oxygen radical production, oxidation enzymes, antioxidants genotoxicity and clastogenicity parameters and
histological changes have been studied. Tested nanoparticles: In our lab, we used immune assays for evaluation
of the potential immunotoxic effect of nanoparticles: titanium dioxide (TiO2), poly (D, L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA),
silica (SiO2), Endorem, uncoated magnetite (Fe3O4), sodium oleate coated magnetite and dextran coated magnetite.
Human peripheral blood leukocytes were exposed with nanoparticles in vitro. Rat animal model was dosed with
nanoparticles in vivo intravenously. Possible test systems: human peripheral blood leukocytes, laboratory animals –

The Slovak University of Agriculture (SUA) is the only agricultural university in Slovakia. SUA is operating in a wide

regions and regional development. Slovak Agricultural University in Nitra is a public university consisting of six

Myspectral is a research, development and production company specializing in spectrometry. We developed first
open source spectrometer in the world - Spectruino. We miniaturize, adapt and utilize all resources of 8, 16 and 32-
bit microcontrollers. In 2013 our open spectrometer is being launched into space as part of the "ArduSat" mission.


The University of Economics in Bratislava (UEBA) was established in 1940 as the Slovak Higher School of

IVMA STU, s.r.o. is a spin-off company of Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The basic idea is to employ
the know-how earned during the years of research on SUT in Bratislava for the industrial application more simply and
cost effectively. IVMA STU, s.r.o.focuses on the research of materials for specific application especially in extreme
environment and conditions. Further it deals with the development of materials for extreme environment with respect
to real application conditions and geometry. In this case the development tasks of applied research are solved and

Department of Garden and Landscape architecture is working under an spices of Faculty of Horticulture and
Landscape Engineering of SUA in Nitra. Department is guarantee of study programme „Garden and landscape
architecture“ in three degrees – undergraduate (Bc., Ing.) and postgraduate (PhD.). Hereby, in research activities, the
Department is aimed on space-structural and dendrobiological aspect of green areas in urbanised landscape and the
countryside. Attention is devoted to ecological aspect of plant species in changed urban environment, urban
biodiversity assessment and green area services evaluation. In theoretical meaning, the principles and approaches
for planning, creation, design and reconstruction of green areas, including historical and modern parks in settlements
and countryside’s are elaborated. Our Department has close cooperation with Department of Green’s Biotechnics in
education and research those are focused to establishment, maintenance of green spaces including plant materials
cultivation and protection.
The Slovak Medical University in Bratislava is the only university in Slovakia that provides monothematic education
for healthcare professions in all three degrees of higher education, and at the same time, the only institution that has
guaranteed complex education of healthcare workers in Slovakia under various names since 1953. The Slovak
Medical University is a public institution of higher education acting under the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic,

nanoparticles and nanofibers, toxicological facilities with the technical and scientific support of other core facilities.
Unique accumulation of expertise is available through long-term experienced specialists: chemists, biochemists,
toxicologists, pharmacologists, environmental health specialists, immunologists, molecular biologists, cell biologists,
and clinicians. Such a combination of expertise and facilities is unique in Europe.        SMU is currently involved in
several 7FP EU projects e.g.: NanoTEST “Develop testing strategies and high-throughput toxicity-testing protocols
using in vitro and in silico methods essential for the risk assessment of NPs used in medical diagnostics”, Q-Nano „A
pan-European infrastructure for quality in nanomaterials safety testing” and NanoImpactNet: “European Network on
the Health and Environmental Impact of Nanomaterials” and has been involved in several 6th FP EU and 5th FP EU
projects e.g. ”Mechanisms of Toxicity of Asbestos Substitute Mineral Fibres: New Approaches to Hazard and Risk
Assessment”, FIBRETOX and HEARNAS “Improving environmental health research and management in newly
associated states”. SMU participated in projects setting-up a network of European laboratories using same testing
methods for various agents: “Standardization and validation of the use of pulmonary epithelial cells for toxicity
assessment of occupational agents and drugs”, (PECO, CIPD-CT93-0123) and “Standardization and validation of the

The Technical university in Kosice is second biggest university in Slovakia. TUKE has nine faculties, around 16 000
full-time undergraduate students, almost 900 teachers and the same number of research and administrative staff.

The Faculty of Economics of the Matej Bel University, with the seat in Banská Bystrica, belongs to the quality

Research Institute for Man-Made Fibres in Svit is active in the research of PP, PES, PA, PLA and other chemical
fibres, their applications, production of colour and additive masterbatches for mass-dying of fibres, plastics and films
as well as in the development and engineering of equipment and machinery for the chemical industry. Testing and
certification services are offered by ISO17025:2005 accredited laboratories including Notified body no.1634.




The Department of Environmental Management is the youngest department of the Faculty of Management, University
of Prešov in Prešov. It was established in 2011 as a department with a dominant focus on research. Pedagogical staff
of the department are involved in providing educational activities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels of the
study programme Management. Members of the department are deeply engaged in research and publication
activities in the field of environmental management. During the last three years they published two foreign and five
domestic monographs, five textbooks, and almost 40 original scientific papers in international and domestic scientific
journals, and more than 70 scientific contributions in international and domestic scientific events.

The Animal Production Research Centre Nitra is a scientific and research organization of the Ministry of Agriculture
and rural development the Slovak Republic The main purpose of the center is to find complex scientific research and
solutions of problems in the sphere of biology and breeding farm animals in form of goal oriented Fundamental and
applied research up to the verification of realization in the user's sphere. The basic objective and subject of activity is
the scientific and research work and special extension in the sphere of breeding farm animals. The center is a
complex integrated workplace of the departmental research basis in Slovakia in the sphere of zootechnics. Within the
framework of the scientific and research activities of the center there are applied and developed the following
disciplines: genetics, biotechnology, embryology, ethology, applied mathematical statistics, economy. The main
objective of the center is to solve the tasks of science and technical development for the branch of animal production,
Mainly in the sphere of breeding, feeding and nutrition, conservation and treatment of feeds, biotechnology,
reproduction, ethology, and technology of ecologization husbandry, biology and technique of breeding farm and small

The Institute of Economic Research of Slovak Academy of Sciences is the biggest economic research organisation in
Slovakia. IER SAS provides PhD. study programmes in cooperation with the University of Economics in Bratislava. It

Mechanical engineering is working in the field of production and manufacturing technology, where the CNC
machining and industrial robotics is one of the main part of research and teaching activity of this Institute. Main
research activity is focused on PLM, environmental production, machine vision in production systems and influence of
cutting fluids on the cutting force in processes of machining and milling. The last mentioned research activity is deeply
focused on tribological processes in machining and milling of several materials used in automotive industry. Results
are proposed to application industry, where inconsiderable saving can be obtained. The laboratory is equipped by
Kistler dynamometer sensors, NI measuring equipment, testing stands, power monitoring device and industrial

University of Technology, IAIK (TUG)          TUG-IAIK research topic is secure implementations of communication
systems, from bottom level SW and HW implementations for crypto primitives, over secure computer networks up to
complete renowned security libraries and e-government applications. They provide expert experience in design and
implementation of crypto primitives. References: crypto modules for commercial smart cards (DES), RFID tags (AES)
and high speed RSA and ECC implementations as well as r IAIK-Crypto Toolkits for the Java language. IAIK develops
crypto IP-cores for SoC designs. The group also has a lot of knowledge in the topic of side channel attacks (SCA),
both on the analysis side and countermeasure development. Within the FP6-IP Open_TC IAIK is leading the
development of integration of Trusted Computing functionality into the Java language. This includes open-source
development of a wrapper on top of TSS-stacks, a stack written in the Java language as well a comprehensive set of
tools covering the necessary PKI functionality for Trusted Computing. Within the nationally funded TOPAS-project

monitoring. The nano-sensor will be linked to the wireless device platform of the ICT system and the data will be

"Research and analysis of underground coal gasifying in the laboratory environment” [2010-2011]. No. of project: P-
101-0003/10 UCG is an in situ technique to recover the fuel (synthetically gas - syngas) or feedstock value of coal
that is not economically available through conventional recovery technologies. Technical University on faculty BERG
has developed unique UCG laboratory and therefore Turkish partner asked of TU F-BERG Kosice about research in
this matter. By aim of UCG research according our developed methodology in UCG laboratories has found out
syngas parameters in laboratory conditions such manner that conditions will be same as in situ. It is provided by a
building of coal models by using theory of similarity including geometry (dimensions, slope) from original coal
samples. For these aims we are using special laboratory UCG generators (experimental physical research) and two
types of simulation models: dynamical thermal model and thermodynamics model. Relevant outputs of experimental
research and simulation cases were as follows: a) The course of temperatures measured for the coal and in the

PROJECTS IN PROGRESS: FREESIC (Free Secure Interoperable Communications) FREESIC is a collaborative
research project discovering a solution that will allow highly secure and cost effective interoperability between
communication infrastructures over the entire Europe. Ardaco is the project coordinator of 9 partners and 5
associated partners is. FREESIC has been inspired by legal, organizational and operational barriers the consortium
has encountered during its previous activities. Existing interoperability solutions such as gateways are the right
approach and will simplify FREESICs adoption and in return FREESIC will open broader possibilities for them. It will
be operated free-of-charge and will offer open source gateway, documentation and operational guidelines for others
to use. The system should motivate end users outside the consortium to request the integration from their system
vendors or integrators. The architecture will take into account on-going standardization research (e.g.: NCOIC
Interoperability Framework) to reduce the integration time and costs. The integration process will be simple; the
system integrator takes the gateway and modifies it as needed. The gateway remains the property of the integrator.
The integrators do not have to worry about disclosing any know-how or information. The communication between
gateways will be end-to-end encrypted and the gateway will be under full control of end user to avoid security

Project ID 285205 SmartCoDe (Smart Control of Demand for Consumption and Supply to enable balanced, energy-
positive buildings and neighbourhoods) Research project is focused on energy management in Smart Energy Grids
at local level like buildings and neighborhoods. Intelligent energy management combines traditional sources of energy
together with local energy sources and storages like wind and solar energy or hybrid car and electrocar batteries.
Today, such energy management requires fine grained infrastructure and expensive hardware. This often limits
applicability to industrial and commercial sector. Together with development of new methods for energy management,
one of the goal is to develop inexpensive (< 3€) hardware and software implementation platform which can be used
by 3rd party developers and manufacturers. Ardaco role in project includes security analysis and implementation of
security layer for used protocols with respect to existing restrictions like computational power, energy usage,
bandwidth and availability of PKI infrastructure. Another important aspect is lifetime of keys and certificates together
with possibility to upgrade algorithms, because expected lifetime of Smart Energy Devices in years or dozen of years.

Project ID 247473 RPKOM (Technology research for the management of business processes in heterogeneous
distributed systems in real time with the support of multimodal communication) The project is realised in cooperation
with Institute of Informatics, Slovak academy of sciences. Activities of the project deal with the research of obstacles
in the implementation of progressive distributed systems for the business processes management in mobile
environment and with proposals to overcome them. The advanced possibilities of new mobile devices and
