What is an Application?
An Application is a software composition which
a) uses computing technologies to perform automated processes that support logically grouped business functions,
b) enables user interactions through a user interface,
c) implements business logic and rules, and
d) utilizes one or more persistent or temporary data stores with a common data model


An Application is NOT:
* A standalone desktop/workstation tool or utility e.g. MS Office, Photoshop, Acrobat, Rational Application Developer, WinZip
* A system utility e.g. antivirus and backup agents
* A runtime container e.g. WebSphere Application Server
* A static web site


Data Entry Instructions
To begin entering or updating the application attribute data, follow these suggested steps:
1. Review and familiarize yourself with the column names and description below
2. Enter the column values for each application, one application per row
3. Use the drop down list of values for certain columns where applicable. If the value manually entered is not on the list, select "Continue? - Yes"
when the warning prompt appears.
4. Select the "Application Inventory" worksheet tab below to start data entry/update.



Column Name                                                                             Column Description

Abbreviated Application Name                                                            The abbreviated name or acronym of the application.
Application Description                                                                 A brief description of the application.
Primary Application Business Capability                                                 The primary application business capability that the application automates/supports.

Other Application Business Capability                                                   Other application business capability served/supported by the application.
Lead Business Owner Division                                                            The lead business division that owns the application.
Other Business User Divisions                                                           The secondary business divisions that use the application, not just the data.
Business Owner Contact                                                                  The contact name of the business owner.
Deployment Date                                                                         The initial date that the application was deployed to the production environment.
Application Access Scope                                                                The internal, external or both user access scope of the application
