The Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Technical University of Košice (TUKE)
www.tuke.sk has been involved mainly with staff of the Department of Automation, Control
and Human-Machine Interactions in many clinical and industrial activities in the area of
Biomedical and Rehabilitation Engineering, Assistive Technology. e-Accessibility and
Ambient intelligence in home automation and daily activites support by ICT for seniors and
disabled. The research team is involved also in activities of the Access Center of the
Technical University of Košice that is a special pedagogical workplace supporting students
with disabilities mainly in ICT and e-Accessibility. The mission of the Access Centre is to
ensure that all students with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities at
the Technical University and other Universities in Košice city, so they can participate, freely
and actively, in all areas of University life. The Centre is involved also in long-life education

years at the Research Institute of Telecommunication Engineering A.S. Popova. Currently
she is responsible for technical assistance in Access Center for disabled students at the

Polymer Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences consists of well-established multidisciplinary research groups
formed by researchers with expertise in polymer chemistry and related disciplines, such as organic synthesis,
material science, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, computation, biochemistry and biology. Scientific program
of the Institute is oriented to studies of preparation and properties of tailor-made polymers with the aim to prepare
advanced materials for material engineering, biotechnology and biomedicine.


SAE Automation is a software developer SME founded on 1995. It has reach experience in development of firmware
and configuration PC software for various embedded systems for example industrial terminals, RTUs, control systems
with RF communication for mobile working machines (cranes), modules for data collecting and passing through GSM
and various communication drivers. The company obtained the ISO 9001:2000 certificate in the area of design,
development and deployment software solutions for industrial automation the first time in the year 2006. Except of
providing customer software development, SAE has also a few own software products. For example, the product
OpcDbGateway is a PC programme package for integration of applications using web services and OPC
technologies which can be used for control and monitoring of technological processes, data collecting to databases or
log files, alarm handling, administration and print of reports, protocolling of error messages, controlling of data transfer
between various data sources, starting of external programmes, connecting of plant floor data with business
applications and also for workflow management. This product is complemented with two visualisation applications
connected over web services. SAE offers also solutions for SMS alarming and reporting.
PAMIDA International has internationally experienced leadership and staff that is able to formulate and execute
communication strategies targeting the relevant stakeholders of relevant academic, scientific or public groups. On-
line activities involve homepage development, team and project platform development and operation, on-line
communication with stakeholder groups, efficient dissemination of information to local, cross-boarder or international
stakeholder groups.




The University of Economics in Bratislava, established in 1940 as the Slovak Higher School of Commerce, is one of

National Forest Centre (NFC) is a scientific-research and professional organization under the Ministry of Agriculture
of the Slovak Republic dealing with research, training, information and planning in the field of forestry. Main tasks of
NFC are: forestry research, education and consulting for the needs of forest management, research and monitoring of
forest ecosystems, forest inventory, information for forestry and for forest management planning. tasks following from
legislation and assignment of the Ministry of Agriculture of SR (control of forest reproductive material, forest protection
service), complex professional service for the needs of forest practice. NFC is a Slovak representative in
international cooperation in forestry (FAO, UNECE, IUFRO, EFI and others. National Forest Centre was established
in accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture of SR by merging three contributory organizations
namely Forest Research Institute Zvolen, Lesoprojekt Zvolen and the Institute for Training and Education of Forestry
and Water Management Staff of the Slovak Republic Zvolen with the effect since 1 January 2006. The integration of
these institutions has created a precondition for ensuring the performance of all tasks, in a complex and effective way.

INTRODUCTION ------------------------------- AUREX is a planning company based in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. The
main orientation of the company is physical urban and spatial planning. Fields of interest cover especially
architecture, urban planning, regional development, ecology and environment, and also geographical information
systems. AUREX Ltd. is reputable company with wide range of national and crossborder documents and also slovak
regional and local projects. Moreover the company regularly participates in international projects like PHARE,
INTERREG, ESPON and other European Union projects. AUREX is the validated organization by CORDIS and so
the legal member of FP7 participant portal. A BRIEF HISTORY ------------------------------- AUREX was established in
in June 1992 as limited compmany. AUREX was established by 8 partners, architects and engineers, all with many
years’ practice in urban and physical regional planning as well as in spatial information systems. Some of the partners
have been experienced in work abroad, too (France, Algeria).AUREX has been registered in the Central Consultancy
register PHARE/TACIS of EU in Brussels under No. SLK-1238. WORKING TEAM ------------------------------- The
basic expert and service staff of the company counts about 25 employees from the different spatial planning sectors.

Slovak Blind and Partially Sighted Union (Únia nevidiacich a slabozrakých Slovenska, slovak acronym: UNSS) is a
civic organisation established April 7th, 1990. Among its missions belong the help to overcome the consequences
of sight damage or loss of vision, it advocates the rights and creation of equal opportunities in each spheres of life,
provides counselling and services, furthermore supports and develops activities - the purpose of which is a full-value
life of people with visual impairment within the mainstream society. The Slovak Blind and Partially Sighted Union
operates within the whole Slovakia. UNSS offers its services on the basis of the Social Aid Act. Social counselling is
designed to people for whom loss or damage of vision means the dominant problem of their life. It includes:
advisory in the field of accepting the impairment itself;    social and legal counselling;      advisory when purchasing
access technology or optical aids;      counselling in the area of employment and education. Within the social
rehabilitation a person with visual impairment is acquiring skills, that lead to re-gaining an independence. In fact a
person is learning to do well-known things in a new way. Here is included:           orientation and mobility in a safe way,
not only at home, but also outside;      performing daily-living skills like hygiene, self-care about appearance and
household;       reading and writing Braille, key-board competence, signing;        training the usage of assistive
technology and optical aids. The Centre of Technical and Information Services is one of the departments of the
Slovak Blind and Partially Sighted Union that provides technical support, information services and training of skills
needed for education, employment and independent life of blind and partially sighted people. Among its activities
belong:       advisory in the selection of assistive technology and teaching their handling;       advisory aimed at
accessibility of web pages as well as other electronic documents for visually impaired users;         courses aimed at
working with assistive technology, seminars and counselling for teachers;          dissemination of information about the
possibilities of using assistive technology for educating and employing people with visual impairment.

Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STUBA) is the largest university of technology in Slovakia attended by
18 000 Bc, MSc, and PhD students. Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (FEI) is one of the 7
faculties of STUBA. Institute of Electronics and Photonics (UEF) has been established in 2011 by merging former

The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) has nine faculties, around 15 000 full-time undergraduates and 900 post-

The Faculty of Health Care and Social Work was established in 1994. Its aim is to educate professionals for public

Myspectral is a research, development and production company specializing in spectrometry. We developed first
open source spectrometer in the world - Spectruino. We miniaturize, adapt and utilize all resources of 8, 16 and 32-

Laboratory of Speech Technologies in Telecommunications is part of Department of Electronics and Multimedia
Communications which belongs to Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of the Technical University of
Košice (FEI TU) which has been formed based on the Governmental Decree No.79/1969, Coll., of July 21, 1969 as a
faculty originally titled "Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the TU of Košice". Presently faculty consists from 11
separate departments. Wide spectrum of research and pedagogic activities are maps to three main directions:
Informatics and Cybernetics, Electronics and Telecommunications, Electric Power and Heavy-Current Engineering.

Salvus s.r.o. is a private medical facility and training center located in 11 Medzilaborecka Street, Bratislava, Slovakia.
Salvus company was founded in 1995, which provides services from a clinical psychologist and psychological
counseling. Since this year began to develop a long tradition in psychological diagnosis, which is always followed and
reported the latest trends in traffic psychology in Slovakia. Since 2003 has become a major provider of training
courses for the general public. Since 2008, we are dedicated computerized psychological diagnostics of professional
drivers, holders and applicants for a gun license. We are currently the largest traffic-psychological center, which
significantly contributed and still contributes to the development of transport psychology in Slovakia. We communicate
with leading experts from various professions related to transport. We propose laws and comment on the drafts of
laws that help to draw attention to human factors in transportation. We are a member of the Expert Commission CDV
in Brno, Czech Republic which creates a driver rehabilitation courses in EU grants. In 2010, together with the Slovak
Chamber of Psychologists, we organized the first international conference on traffic psychology. This action has
interrupted almost 20 years of silence traffic psychologists in Slovakia. In 2012 the 2nd year of this scientific
conference is being prepared, attended by the leading European transport psychologists who set the trend in this
industry for the next period. Salvus was the first company who conducted driver’s rehabilitation course in Slovakia It
invests considerable material, financial, personnel and time costs to develop this method. Nevertheless, it still feels a
lack of didactic aids, teaching materials and guidance for client’s and lecturers. As a country with a short tradition in
this method, we can provide new and original ideas unaffected by previous failures in the implementation of some
methods. Moreover, Salvus has close contacts with experts in the field of driving schools and centers of safe driving.
They help us to find the most reserves that drivers have in their knowledge of safe driving. We urge our demands to
our close colleagues in psychiatry and general medicine to provide better medical examination and inform their
patients about the risks of alcohol and drugs on driving. We also work with representatives of the Police Force and
the Integrated Rescue System which provide us with authentic and invaluable information from real interventions and
explain to us the real causes of accidents in Slovakia.

The University of Žilina (UNIZA) www.uniza.sk is a public educational institution with fully university character. It has
more than fifty-nine years tradition. It was established in 1953 as the University of Railway Transport. The profile of
the University is given by its traditional orientation to all fields of transport and communications, electrical engineering,
mechanical engineering, civil engineering and related technical, technological and economic disciplines, natural

The main field of interest for FMMC is the communicology (science of communication) researching the nature and
features of media activities and the products of media creative activities implemented in traditional but more and more
innovative, non-traditional media. Regarding the processes, it reflects on the functioning of structured system of the
current mass communication means (journalistic) and updated or other contents (artistic, didactic, etc.) It pays
attention to mutual relations and interaction of its elements and layers of effect, it studies the nature and preconditions
of communicability of communicated contents, forms, ways, procedures, genres and methods of their interpretations,
the ways of increasing the effectiveness of mass media contents and many other relevant questions. In the process of
its development and founding, influenced by the objective changes in the development of its institutional and
institutionalized basis, the communicology has defined its scope, crystallized its methods and a complex system of
knowledge has been created. The process of founding the science of communication took place simultaneously with
the development of university education of media workers and journalists as well as with the development of scientific
and research basis. The objects to its research are the media contents (journalist or non-journalistic) in press,
broadcasting, television and in new media perceived as creating complexes and individualities in a broader social
context: media institutions, means (media) spreading the utterances, by their content and ways of depiction
distinctive, considering also the process of spreading and particularities of their recipients (audience). The used
methods of socio-scientific research match the complexity of the subjects researched. Some of the research
procedures elaborated in the media content research (e.g. the method of content analysis) make up an element of
socio-scientific methodology. Even though the media literature is examined by the methods of several scientific
disciplines, the knowledge is integrated in the system of communicology. It has basic and applied; we can say
technological research, developed theory, history and self-reflective criticism. The theory analyzes predominantly the
particularities of mass communication as a special kind of social communication, in the process of which diverse
current and updated contents form the communicator to the recipient are transmitted through technical means, and
sometimes – in case of wider and deeper scope, it researches also the processes preceding or following the mass
communication, also the bounds to more global communication context, the communication background including.
The general theory focuses on the features of mass communication without regard to medium performing it.
Specialized theories deal with contents mediation in press, broadcasting, television and other means (the Internet).
In the history framework the relations of mass media communication in national (state) and international (world) scale
are researched, the particularities in different development levels are explained, the genesis is observed and the
timeless and period formats of creative procedures of individual and group communicators are discussed. These
simplified and briefly described objectives are followed by the criticism of theories (as a science of science), concepts
and communicology history creating reliable preconditions for a permanent self-evaluation of the study field. An

The impact of ICT on the economy is researched at the FIS through joint projects and presentations in
cooperation with the Faculty of Economics of the Technical University in Košice (Slovak Republic). The two
universities make joint publications about research on economic indices in ICT . The FIS has similar research
and cooperation with the Aalborg University (Denmark) and the Maribor University (Slovenia). Some special
aspects of the impact of ICT on the economy are researched in cooperation with Johannes Kepler

Lacik The main objective is to research and develop a novel implantable long-term nano-sensor for continuous BGL
monitoring. The nano-sensor will be linked to the wireless device platform of the ICT system and the data will be
automatically collected, stored and processed. The novelty of P-CEZANNE lies within the nano-sensor containing

improvement in the intensive use of NeCS technologies for the reactivity, autonomy and monitoring of large scale

nodes operating under highly decentralized control, but unified in accomplishing complex system-wide goals. One of

currently it is a partner of FP7 project NOMS - Nano-Optical Mechanical Systems (FP7 228916, www.noms-
project.eu).
Public Health Authority - Epidemiological information system The Public Health Authority is a public institution
financed from the national budget whose activities cover the entire territory of the Slovak Republic. The authority was
established by the Ministry of Health. The Authority provides methodological guidance on and manages and
supervises the performance of public administration tasks in the area of public health by 36 regional public health
authorities. One of the tasks of this institution is monitoring the occurrence and controlling the spread of contagious
diseases. The old system, relying on paper reports, did not suit the needs of modern management and the Authority
therefore decided to implement a new solution that would significantly improve the quality of data collection and
reduce the administrative burden for reporting units. The task to design and implement the EPIS system was given
to Softec. The fundamental principles of system design included the highest possible openness degree and ease of
use by the reporting units (hospitals, healthcare providers, etc.). These institutions often struggle with a lot of
administrative work; and the objective of the new system was to simplify the work for them. The following issues were
taken into account in the application design: data transmission, possibility to use data available in the existing
information systems of hospitals, ease of use and speed of work with the application. The deployment of EPIS helped
to improve collection of data about contagious diseases, streamlined the work of the staff of individual regional public
health authorities and improved access to information. The system provides all epidemiologists the same on-line
information about the prevalence of contagious diseases and epidemics not only for the Slovak Republic as a whole,
but also district by district and region by region, thereby enabling them to take the necessary measures to prevent the
spread of these diseases. The system automatically evaluates and signals the increased prevalence of individual
monitored contagious diseases, using statistical analyses at the national level. This brought the analytical work with
the collected data to a new and higher level. The system also complies with the criteria of ECDC (European Centre
for Diseases Prevention and Control) on the quality of classification of contagious diseases and on the quality of data
reporting about contagious diseases. The system not only supports the collection, processing and presentation of
data about contagious diseases, it also includes an Early Warning System, which gives an early warning to the
professional public of the occurrence of serious contagious diseases in Slovakia or EU countries and thus enables
taking the necessary measures. A specific feature of the system is its openness. This openness enables connection
to local systems used in microbiological laboratories and to automatically receive the results of laboratory
examinations of biological samples. Ambulatory systems and other systems of healthcare providers can also be
connected to send the relevant data automatically in case the prevalence of a contagious disease is established.
The EPIS system was evaluated as the best project in the "Process Improvement" category at the ITAPA 2007
international congress (which is organised every year in Slovakia and concentrates on the use of information
technology in public administration). According to MUDr. Eleonóra Fabiánova, PhD., director of the Regional Public
Health Authority in Banská Bystrica, the key benefit of EPIS is that it allows the monitoring and evaluation of particular

"Research and analysis of underground coal gasifying in the laboratory environment” [2010-2011]. No. of project: P-
101-0003/10 UCG is an in situ technique to recover the fuel (synthetically gas - syngas) or feedstock value of coal
that is not economically available through conventional recovery technologies. Technical University on faculty BERG
has developed unique UCG laboratory and therefore Turkish partner asked of TU F-BERG Kosice about research in
this matter. By aim of UCG research according our developed methodology in UCG laboratories has found out
syngas parameters in laboratory conditions such manner that conditions will be same as in situ. It is provided by a
building of coal models by using theory of similarity including geometry (dimensions, slope) from original coal
samples. For these aims we are using special laboratory UCG generators (experimental physical research) and two
types of simulation models: dynamical thermal model and thermodynamics model. Relevant outputs of experimental
research and simulation cases were as follows: a) The course of temperatures measured for the coal and in the
gasifying channel, the effectiveness of UCG depends on these temperatures b) The course of syngas volume flow for
input flows of air, oxygen, c) The course of syngas caloric value upon the rise from the generator d) The course of
syngas composition (CO, CH4, H2, CO2, O2) e) The velocity of gasification (immediately courses, on average) f)
Oxidizing agents consumption, amount of syngas produced, average syngas caloric value g) Chemical and
elementary analysis of the supplied coal before and after (coal rests) UCG tests (protocol of accreditation lab). h) The
results of thermodynamic simulations of coal and air mixture and the air and oxygen mixture (theoretical limits of the
syngas concentration and the oxidizing agent necessity) i) Energy review, a balance and effectiveness of gasifying.
The analysis of measured data and simulation cases conduct to improvement UCG methods and increasing of
gasifying effectiveness.      "Underground coal gasification by thermal dissociation” [2007-2010]. 	 CONTRACT of
No.: APVV-0582-06 in Slovakia The project researched underground coal gasification processes for Slovak lignite
by thermal dissociation. The product of underground coal gasification (UCG) is synthetically gas-syngas. In project,
suitable coal supplies were analyzed and for the research was chosen coal seem Cigel. The counter maps
constructed on the lines of equal thickness of coal seam (focus on the seam h1 in the Cigeľ Mine) showed it in 0 - 4
meters. This thickness of coal is appropriate for UCG method instead of conventional underground Coal-Mining
Methods. The upper sealing component, above this coal seam h1, is built of roof clay seams of min. thickness 100
meters. The calorific value of caol from the seam h1 is up 8 to 12 MJ.kg-1, and it be suitable of planned purpose. The
solving of project was based on the mathematical modeling and an experimental research. Thermodynamically and
dynamical mathematical model was created. Thermodynamically model enables to simulate the composition of
syngas on temperatures. Dynamical model serves for the study of the moving gasification front and temperature fields
in UCG. Results from simulation were verified during 15 experiments in special laboratory for UCG. The laboratory
consists from 2 generators. The original coal including undeburden, overburden was stored in agree criteria of
similarity and it was gasified in this suitable chosen a generator. During soving of project was defined a new important

navigation and new kinematic KNOWBRIDGE – crossborder CSA for green cooperation (OP South East
AUREX has experiences in participatin in projects of transnational territorial energy solutions

Project Objectives: General objective of this phase of the ARGE DONAULANDER concept is the description of the

The network of the future The project aims to define and test several network scalable architectures able to offer
cost efficient broadband access for people and SME’s in sparse populated areas (rural and/or sub-urban). Also, the
needs for communication services will be examined and appropriate services that match these needs will be defined
and tested. From technical point of view, the main S&T objective is to establish, to test and to develop a group of low
costs, broadband access networks in hybrid configurations, using the modern available equipments as WiMAX, Wi-Fi,
Broadband Power Line, satellite access, etc. in combination with different connections to the backbone network. The
Competence Center for New Materials, Advanced Technology and Energy – long-term cooperation between
academic partners as Slovak University of Technology and Slovak Academy of Sciences and industry partners
(Siemes, Enel, ZSE Group, etc.). The main issue is to establish a long-term platform for energy research focusing on
Smart Grid technologies. Project obtained the EU funding. VIBRATe – cross-border project between ZSE Group and
three Austrian energy utilities focusing on the e-mobility – e-car testing and monitoring, charging station operation,
FIS UEP system set-up, communication in scientific work. Thanks to the structure of etc.
back-endis oriented on two main streamsspecification, e-mobility system architecture, the faculty (faculty consists
from eight departments with general orientation on statistics, demography and informatics) has two main scientific
areas – informatics and exact science. Informatics is split in three scientific orientations – business informatics and
information technology (implementation of ICT within corporations), information management (effectiveness and
efficiency of ICT in corporations, putting managerial methods into work, ICT human resources management) and
knowledge engineering (quality management in relation to content of Web pages). Exact sciences have three main
orientations – statistics, econometrics and demography. Informatics Research and Development work has a long
tradition on this faculty. Traditionally are solved here grants form Czech national grant agency GACR (approximately
15 scientific projects in 5 years). Entering the EU structures, FIS applied international grants with accent on
