Text of the Ems Telegram- Hermann
A letter sent by Heinrich Abeken of the foreign office under Kaiser Willhelm’s
instructions to Bismarck. Then there’s also the version that Bismarck published.
The first letter sent by Abeken was to inform Bismarck of the events that had
taken place and that the King now refused to talk to Benedetti anymore. The king
states that although he didn’t first trust what Benedetti had told him, he later
found out that it was all true. The King suggests that Bismarck tells the press of
Benedetti’s new demand and its rejection. When Bismarck publishes it though,
they take out all mention of the fact that Benedetti’s news was actually true.
Two different points of view on a matter. It also shows how censored the
governments were able to make things.
It’s really incredibly hard to understand and you have to have a strong
background on who the people are to really make sense of any of it.
